- Go to Kerry, 53% of our children don’t graduate; appalling!
Well, I assume he has someone writing speeches
for him and researching the topics he wants to address. Am I wrong?

Professor,
I went back and looked at the video and read the transcripts. There is no where that he said it was just one high school. He meant the whole country. The figures I quoted come from the people who track the numbers.

Shocking surprise...
Kerry was right!!! I couldn't believe it, either. (It also shows why even statistics are subject to "spin")
"According to the LA Times, only 53% of the 9th graders in Birmingham High School (in Van Nuys) graduated 4 years later..."
OK, he was almost correct. He said 53% dropped out, but it was 53% who graduated. A misstatement, but we've all read numbers some where and inverted them."
What's wrong with the statement? It doesn't take into account a)those who moved out of the district b)those who got GED's c)those who took more than 4 years to graduate and 5)Those who died (not a big problem in Van Nuys, but a factor in say, East LA or Compton).
See how numbers (and your memory) can trick you?

Offbeats,
Good comment. The thing that also irks me about this is that the hosts of the show just take the guys word as gospel.

lost_hillbilly,
Yes, they often wonder why they are losing elections. It's because of candidates like Kerry.

Thanks a lot for reading. as you pointed out, money is the key to many things. Even though it can't solve all problems some times when they do happen. God Bless you my friend.
