Corbin,

I understood your post, I simply wanted to point out in my previous comment than mentioning Socrates wasn't the best choice (it didn't explain your view, and the bloggers who have nothing to do with philosophy, could have drawn not proper conclusions).

No, I'm not a conservative, I never support such parties and views. I know your political system and the political history of the USA well enough to tell you that,  I'm pretty sure I wouldn't support your President (GBII) nor his politics.

We've got in Poland many parties, and now the conservative right wing has power, unfortunately. There is only one liberal party called PO (Platform for Citizens) and believe me the word "liberal" does mean the same here as in the whole Europe or North America. There can be slight differences resulting from cultural diffferences. (By the way, Poland doesn't belong to Eastern Bloc ....!!!)

Antisthenes is whoI am referring to....I only mention Socrates because he was a student of Socrates......I am talking about striving to be the opposite of the purveyors of negativity.....fill your life with happiness and love.....structure and organization.......civility all contribute to the ability of finding that happiness......

I think there is some confusion regarding what you and others in the Eastern Bloc view as a liberal and a conservative........You are much more of a western conservative than you think.....you would probably be a libertarian over here......

Corbin, come on back. There is no way you are not going to be
hated, ridiculed and stoned by some on here. That is all they do well. Please don't leave, you will be another good person gone because of 'real intolerance'!

Hi,
Though I like you and respect your views, I disagree with you. I'm a liberal deprived of hatred, but full of tolerance. And as for philosophy; I admire Socrates and his other followers. Don't forget that Socrates was the one who was sentenced to death, because of his views, he was faithful to his ideals all his life. No doubt, he has been one of the wisest thinkers and he deserves respect...As for cynics, it's a different philosophical school, I'm sure that Socrates was closer to Stoics (like Seneka) than Cynics. I wish so few people knew philosophy, if some of them read Immanuel Kant, they would perceive the world in a  more tolerant way...Corbin, if there were fewer prejudices, there would be more tolerance, love and beauty in this world. I wonder if your President is a thinker...How do you think?

I do believe that is your best blog yet
Or, at least in recent memory.

Cynicism can make for some great comedy.  George Carlin is hilarious.  But cynicism as a way of life?  No thanks.  It's crippling.  Why would one do that  to themselves?

Cyncism, negativity and such are true killers!

Killers of the mind, the body, the spirit, life, etc, etc. I don't know if Liberals are true cynics or not. If they were in power they would not be. They are not in power right now and they are having a hard time dealing with that fact. They were in power for so long it's hard to get a good read on them at this point.

That it has my friend...You know I will never understand the mentality that supports agression and name calling as a form of debate. I think the rules of engagement on debate  read differently. Like you I try to keep negative comments out of my pages too, no need to depress the rest of us just because someone else is right?

I prefer "realism" to cynicism or just plain ignoring negative facts
just to stay happy.  I'm much happier, not bitter or negative.  I like what you said to Bud-Oracle, compromise is good as long as you don't lose sight of your core values.

Bud....
Working to achieve compromise is fine...it is the main way for governmental bodies to accomplish things....until it requires sacrificing your core values...then, that's  a line I choose not to cross.  Thanks for stopping in.....

Corbin,
This is a fabulous post...I can't think of any words that I needed more than these this morning! It's going to be another GREAT day! Most of them are...Thanks for sharing and thanks for nudging me in the right direction. I'm really not as naive as I may seem. I've been spending most of my waking hours teaching some Arabic men, not boys, English...WOOHOO! It only took a little of the rumbly grumblies here on Blogit to knock my perspective off. Thanks again...

Yes it is their problem!! I chose to remain positive and with that comes clarity. Negative anything always clouds judgement....

To add to your good thoughts. Cynics make good journalists, they pick

apart elements of life, but to a fault most of the time.  They don't believe much.  1Corinthians says to believe all things.  Cynics believe hardly anything.  Maybe that is why over 90% of journalists in the mainstream media are liberals.

A thought.

Cheers!

Hello.. I also choose to remain positive and find happiness in my Family, home, friends and Country. I can find the rose in the thorns and I do not see that as cowardly. People who allow themselves to always remain negative cannot do anything that will shine a light into the future. Take Care!

It's a good thing I'm not a Liberal then, Corbin or I'd be miserable
Good job on the Greek philosophy. You lost me there, I don't know much about the Greeks.  As for promoting ownership and self-responsibility: I think it's more like privatizing Social Security and Medicare so that pharmaceuticals can profit.  But then that sounds cynical, doesn't it?  I guess I can't win.

Be happy in your choices Corbin, but allow others theirs.
We must agree to disagree on a more compromising plain. Just as the liberals have their misconceptions so do you. Why not get together and mine each others platforms for the nuggets of wisdom they contain and not blindly conform to one ideology or another. Balance leads to a sum greater than each on the their own.
