CrimsonCarouse - I wouldn't know - we don't have a pledge of allegiance in

my country.

We had to go to the adjoining church every day before classes, then sing the national anthem before starting classes. For the first few years it was God Save the Queen, then in 65 it changed to O' Canada.

when i was a kid in school
after we said the pledge we had a moment of silence to "use as we wished". Do they still do that? Do they even say the pledge in school anymore?

Ariala - ".......by normal human beings"? This coming from you, made me

laugh.

I suggested that a lot of the public outcry to re-establish prayer in school was coming from a fringe element but I didn't go as far as saying that they were not normal. There is normalcy in reacting with some outrage when a longstanding tradition, felt by many to be an important, is taken away to accomodate minority groups. There is also some normalcy found in resisting this change but to carry the banner for so many years after society has swallowed and digested this tough but very necessary pill is definitely abnormal. It is also regressive.

Prayer belongs in the heart between a person and their God or gods. No
formal prayer in public school is needed nor should be sought by normal human beings.

mysteria - thank you and as you know, flattery will get you everywhere
I'm still a bit surprised when things such as returning prayer to the schools resurfaces. The mentality that compells someone to insist on all children subscribing to one set of beliefs (their beliefs), is a mindset from medieval times.

SuccessWarrior - that's it in a nutshell
and there are some, even right here on Blogit, that are so far detached from reality they even admit as much. It has to be their way because they have the credibility of the bible behind them. Too bad for everyone else.

Everything is cool as long as we do it their way
