Heath Ledger is the favorite...
as of right this moment. Although, presuming "Brokeback Mountain" wins the top prize (which it will) ... keep in mind that over the past decade, only twice has the year's "Best Picture" also contained the Best Actor winner.
I can say personally, having seen all the nominees, that Hoffman clearly deserves to win. (Joaquin Phoenix would be second among the candidates.)

I think Philip Seymour will win also... though I haven't seen any of the
nominated movies either.
