Welcome, Ana-Lise!

Bonds' intelligence is not in question. His tact, civility and common sense are.

Oh, and Professor Peabody, that was a nice try. But Thurmond did the filibuster as a Democrat, and no amount of gyrating on your part will change that. And he was in the wrong, no matter what his affiliation. And that doesn't even begin to solve the problem you're going to have with all the other Southern Democrats who opposed civil rights.

Stereotyping is dangerous!
Putting people into categories is dangerous.  I completely agree with you.  Who could be so dumb as to make a comment like that?

turncoats!

Well, you're right...sort of. Strom was a Democrat from '56-'64, when he made his famous filibuster. But he switched parties and was a Republican senator from '64-'03, when he died!!!   If you get to claim Thurmond was a "Democrat", I get to claim all the accomplishments of Ronald Reagan, who was a DEMOCRAT until he, too switched parties in 1962 (at age 51).

Both are generally considered republicans, though. And please don't preach to me about history!

Welcome, Professor Peabody!

Many thanks for your comments. Your point about "feminazis" is blunted slightly by Rush's use of the term in satire, unlike Bond's deadly seriousness. I can still see how it would offend you,  though.

You mention the late Senator Strom Thurmond. Do your homework, Professor. Thurmond was a Democrat when he launched the mega-filibuster (24 hours and 18 minutes, believe it or not) against the 1957 civil rights bill. He turned Republican in 1964. Here's a biography of him: http://www.strom.clemson.edu/strom/bio.html

As for Republican support for civil rights legislation, take a gander at http://www.mdcbowen.org/p2/hr7152/Freep.pdf

blogflogger, you raise an interesting problem. I don't think I'm doing the same thing as the far left. The difference, as I see it, is that I don't rely solely or even primarily on such severe language, unless I get as angry as I did with this character. I will use satire and sarcasm, but when I'm on my game I will make every effort to back it up with facts and logic, as I did in citing the Republican support for civil rights legislation.

Your very right..we should all be able to agree to disagree without every issue under the sun dividing us! Good post!

Fill me in...
I'm curious, what Republican efforts in the civil rights movement are you referring to? Strom Thurmond's record-setting filibuster? Or his illegitimate (by his teenaged housekeeper, no less) black child?

WriteroFlight - In the course of building your case...

... in paragraph three you name-call and label liberals hateful saying, “the far left is unreasonable, extreme, vicious, hateful and entirely removed from reality…”

Then in paragraph 4 you warn that liberals have a, “reliance on name-calling, smears, bigotry, hate-mongering, paranoia and so on”.

That’s exactly what you just did in paragraph 3. Hm.

Agree With You
Bond should think before he speaks and let the majority of what he says reflect truth as opposed to one sentence.

Carelessly-used epithet

As a Jewish person, I almost always take offense at Nazi references. It diminishes the suffering of tens of millions to compare any modern party of Nazism.

Not to fall into the "he hit me first" excuse, but for how long has the patron saint of conservatism, Rush Limbaugh, been referring to femi-nazis?

And it is a chorus......
that runs through every aspect of the American Left.

"chorus of bile" . . .
Great term, writer, and so very appropriate!

Boy those Nazis made an impact on the world, didn't they?
What would we do without them, eh?
