Brilliant post, and I wonder why Cindy Sheehan would disrespect the memory
of her son the way she has.  No man wants to die in vain and be thought of as a child.  Her son was a brave hero who chose to re-enlist WHILE IN IRAQ.  He could've gone home but chose to serve.  I think Cindy has been driven somewhat crazy by the death of her son.  It's hard to see her act so strange.  I feel bad about it and angry at the same time.  She's dishonoring her son and hurting the other troops.

I always liked my ribbons...and I can't remember anyone making fun of them! LOL~

85% hummm...geez, that a high number. One would think someone else was in office, and or running the show. Do you suppose the silent majority is filtered into that number? I know a lot of the silent majority, and they are SILENT, but you hear from them on election days! I swore I heard them in 2004!

Well, first of all...

I never wore a ribbon in my hair......

and second.......thank you for your biography.

some of you -- i wonder how you did in the schoolyard
a classmate makes fun of the ribbon in your hair and you run away crying.

on Blogit -- I haven't seen any attacks that would warrant such whining as some you have come up with.

I have been attacked much worse than any of you have and I dealt with it.

As I say, you are little tyrants -- disagreement is just not tolerated.
and you are examples of the religious intolerance that is bringing this country down.
you don't speak for any more than than maybe 10 or 15% of Americans, and yet you want to control the discourse
that cannot be allowed.
you speak your peace, I speak mine, others speak their peace.
but you cannot speak for me and you cannot speak for the other 85% of Americans,.
My problem is that you do try to control the discourse.
this is tyranny
Sic semper tyrannus.

You ,my friend, are anything but a bully. You are one of the most well informed writers that has come down Main Street in Blogitville... I appreciate every post you put up, and consider it a privilege to read them!

Janes....truer words have never been spoken

And just like justso said ....the attacks do have a heavy weight.....the attacks are meant not only as a personal assault...but as a means to wear down our determination.

But we can never let that happen........they are a minority...Xeno as much said that below....but the vocal minority wins based on the decibel level....not right or wrong....or truth.  It is our duty as god-Loving Americans to fight the fight....even in our little world of Blogitsville.......

They love calling others bullies....while bullying away  with their attacks.  Do they ever offer alternatives other than ....Bush is stupid, Bush Lied....yada, yada, yada.......

Have we seen any original thoughts here that offer solutions to the problems facing this country?  No........

Why is that?    It's easier to take the negative and hack away......

If I am a bully, so be it.   It's better to bully away for something...than to do so against everything American.

What a wonderful soldier Clay was. I am with you on this one, he is a shinning e_ample of vision and valor. He makes us all proud and mostly he makes me thankful! Great post as usual my friend!!

Flame-thrower - Where is your logic?

A fallen soldier writes a wonderful letter, therefore you are suspicious of Sheehan? (That's a quote from your comment. ) That might be one of the more amazing “if / then” statements I’ve come across in years.

I for one am proud of all of our men and women in uniform AND respect the right of every American to object to any or all facets of the war in Iraq. We are a free country.

Justsouno,

I don't think you "caved in"; rather, you just got downright sick and tired of reading the same depressing, antagonistic and demeaning comments day after day.  So do I.

Fact is, I also get tired of making negative, defensive comments day after day.  I don't think it does any good and likely just makes the trench deeper.  So what it boils down to is that both sides have dug in and ain't budging an inch.  Each side thinks he/she is right.

It was very obvious to me that Xenox and his ilk completely missed the intent and spirit of the letter, fixating instead on their hatred for the Administration and the war.  He doesn't give a rip about the person or people involved.

The letter of Dan Clay was very emotional and it shows how good he was. That is why, I look with suspicions the antivities of Mrs Sheehan. It is good you brought it on here. GOD Bless.

we have to speak out

and we shoiuldn't quit until this administration is put out of business.

so don't try to silence any of us.

I personally am not going to stop

evil has to be dealt with.

the noxioiusness comes from

an administraton that is driven by nothing but short-sighted U.S. corporations -- and then a public that does not inform itself enough to recogjze the dribble that comes droolling from the mouths of these bastards.

and then from those who accept their lies hook, line and sinker and then help ro propagate them -- like yourselves.

I am so fed up with this administration -- they've pretty well ruined our country in the half dozen years they've been in.

the problem is they have enough support and not enough dissent so that this couintry can be steered from the cataclysmic course that they have set it on.

once the collapse comes, I hope the American People have enough sense to put blame where blame's due -- right on this lousy Administration.

Professor_Peabody - Well stated. Free, as long as you do as we want.
Arresting people for what they might do? Can you say Nazi Germany? - The police chief admitted in one interview that in past years those wearing a t-shirt with a slogan were allowed to close their jacket. Hideous Brown Shirt behavior against a US citizen.

Corbin, Jane's, Wiley, Cowboy and Sarooster There are ways to say things
that are right, Strong but don't destroy the spirits of others. You all have done this so well all the way! The ways of the name callers on here do not have to be so ugly that they are destructive and violent while they speak against violence they say and they are violent to all who have any opinion different than their own. You are brave, I caved under their harassment. Bless you

Get your "Fax" straight

Sorry, Corbin, but I can only hope you're merely wrong...and not just spreading disinformation. Cindy Shehan did not "refuse" to cover her shirt; in fact, she offered to (according to her interview). And since SHE was there, and you were not, I give the edge to her. Now, she  claims she was roughly pushed and shoved out of the hall ("I have the bruises to prove it) in hand cuffs. Any why was she arrested, but not the wife of Rep. Young?  Of course the police apologized; she had committed no crime!!! If you can find a statute that spells out any prohibition of wearing a t-shirt with lettering, I'll do the time for it!!!

Cindy is guilty of many things, but she (unlike President Bush) has never been proven to be a liar. ("When we wiretap, it's with a court order..."). I'll still take her word, until proven otherwise. And for the poster who referred to her "demented actions" quit psychoanalyzing people by proxy!!! To call Cindy nuts, crazy, demented, whacko, etc., etc. without ever having even spoken to her is just a smear tactic.

Corbin....

thanks so much for this blog! It is by far the best I have read in a long time! It is so hard for some people to realize that if they are not part of the solution, then they are part of the problem. Some people can only devote themselves to the destruction of everything around them, yet this man and others like him keep devoting themselves to give them the place to do so.

Also, thank you JanesOpinion for you excellent commentary! I have been searching for the proper descriptive words and you seem to have found them!

xenox, your noxious, cynical drivel makes me nauseated.

You missed the whole entire point of that Marine's letter.

Corbin, thank you for posting his letter.  It literally brought tears to my eyes, to realize we have such courageous, faithful and honorable people fighting for us.  I will look forward to meeting him in Heaven.

What a difference between Dan (and you) versus the annoying drivel of the Cindy Sheehans and Xenoxs of the world.  I'm sorry to sound offensive to some, but the demented rant of these people is really wearing on me.

a simple, good man with the highest sense of duty to his country
and the Assholes in the Administration sent him to his death, all the while he was thinking he was doing something good.
He is to be commended.
The administration should be impeached and sent to jail for uselessly sending so many patriotic men and women to their deaths and maimings.
He thought he was defending his country.
His dedicaton could have been used for far betterpurposes than an illegitimate war that will only kill and maim more of our young people.
The best memorial for him is to bring the troops home so no more will be ground meat for a cruel administraton's hoax.

Professor Peabody

No one was dragged anywhere....... she refused to cover up her shirt.....

Frankly I think it was outrageous for the Capitol Police Chief to apologize to the woman....and that's just my opinion.

The State of the Union is a time honor tradition.  And it doesn't matter if it were a Democrat or Republican administration...such foolishness should not be allowed.  They removed people with shirts representing both sides of the issue here....If nothing else out of respect to our country she should have been removed.

But no, the anything goes crowd feels it's just another opportunity to trample on traditional Americana.

I find it amusing to read the rants and ravings on another post here....you know,  the  Cindy Appreciation Club gathering......The continued references to Nazi Germany....is appalling.

After reading them.....for some reason, I  couldn't help but keep thinking of a song in the movie The Music man.....

Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little
Cheep cheep cheep, talk a lot, pick a little more
Pick a little, talk a little, pick a little, talk a little
Cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep cheep

Cindy Sheehan should be ashamed of herself.  She should look at the Clay family and try to be more like them.

Pre-crime prevention

Dear DrJPT:

Your comments concern me ("we don't know what type of disruption she MIGHT have caused"). In this country, we don't arrest people for what they MIGHT do, are thinking about doing, or want to do. Unless we have proof of a conspiracy, we don't even arrest them for what they are planning on doing.  They have to actually commit a crime. Wearing a t-shirt is not a crime (yet).

Oh, by the way, she was not "escorted" out; she was dragged away in handcuffs. The charges were later dropped, and an apology offered. But you must ask yourself, honestly, why she was cuffed, booked & fingerprinted, whie the Congressman's wife wearing the "Support the troops" t-shirt was only asked to leave the galley.

Remember, Shehan is entitled to her opinions. No more so than anyone else...but no less so, either. It is richly ironic that while President Bush was bragging about the freedoms & liberty we brought to Iraq, a US citizen & US Congressman's guest was being perp walked out. Shame, shame shame!!!

I Agree
I think she is disrespectful and needs to find another approach to vent her frustration.  I think it was good that she was escorted out because no one knows the type disruption that she would have caused.  I had the opportunity to see the president at the airport when he campaigned.  I could only get a friend to go with me, for I am the only one in my family who supports him.  When I picked her up, I asked her clearly whether she would be a disruption or not.  If so, she was not riding with me! She said no and acted well.  She was pleased to be able to go, especially with the tickets we had for seating and the honor of being i the same place as the President of United States and we had the bonus of his brother, the governor!!
