I would not say I was anti religion.  I have very often said I understand the need for religious beliefs.  I am very much anti organized religion.  I think all religious beliefs should be personal if they are to be real and I would put less than 1% of religious beliefs that are out there to be a personal thing.

Where do you get the impression that I am out to destroy anything that is religious?  Because I show where I see flaws in religious beliefs?  No, that is not na attempt to destroy them but to understand them.

It really sounds to me that you are going off on the basic stereotypes that religious propaganda has put on atheists. Your whole comment seems to be out of focus.

I have no clue where you got the impression that I am a negative person or bitter.  I am about the most optimistic person you will ever meet.  I know everything will work out for the best.  Did you not read the answers I left to your questions?  I was very positive in my attitude there.

Remember you were the one who claimed that kids lost their sense of innocence and wonder after Christmas, and yet I see that everyday in the eyes of my two boys.  Does that sound negative or bitter?

I have no idea what you made your assumptions about me based on, outside of the general propaganda and stereotypes about atheists.  Show me show examples where I show myself to be negative or bitter or even trying to destroy religion.

Don't look at what I write as coming from an atheist, but as possible questions to ask yourself.  I really think you need to break away from preconceived notions here in order to better understand my over all message.

kooka....
in all seriousness you have poisoned your mind with anti-religion so much that anything you read that you feel has a religious context you feel the need to destroy it. If the basic questions of what is right and what is wrong is ONLY used by people with religious beliefs then we are all in trouble! I realize you are not mocking me. I truly wish to gain knowledge from everyone here, but you seem so bitter and negative with this world of ours I just cannot seem to find anything worth knowing.

Nothing in my comment was trying to say who was right or wrong, as I clearly said those answers were my opinions.

If you were asking yourself those questions, then take  serious look at my answers and see if any of them make sense to you.  I am not saying you have to believe as I do, but the truth is there are answers out there.  Most of your questions really were not that complicated but seemed o be drawn more from the religious propaganda that is out there.  I answered your questions by expressing my views of the world.  With such questions that is the only way you can answer them.

I still would like to know where in my answers I showed myself to be self-centered as you claimed.

I am not trying to prove you wrong or mock you.

kooka_lives - the most unbelievable aspect of the fact that there are still

people walking on this globe that insist that the bible is the word of God is this:

The history of the manuscript itself is completely ignored. Ignoring this history is not a question of belief in a supreme being, it is a willful and promoted blindness, originating at the time of the inception of the biblical writings and perpetuated to this day. Most non corroborating evidence from the times of writing were pro-actively and systematically destroyed by religious organizations and sadly, little of it exists today. We have spoken of the various translations and impromptu editing that the manuscript has undergone but most people have no idea to what extent this has taken place. Nor do they fully comprehend the changes in the meanings of words from one language to another, not to mention inflections and nuances interjected by the human authors. A full study of the bible and where it came from does not start in a church with the venerable work itself but in a library with the history of the bible's integrated mythology that far predates the bible. It becomes obvious to anyone willing to keep an open mind on the subject, that man created the myths, stories and legends, then over a number of centuries homogenized them to fit the long awaited messiah. With a few references to actual historical events and an overwhelming desire by mankind for this to really be the word of God, we have what we have today. An infrastructure dedicated to reconciling a uniquely drafted document with a long and colourful history, to a modern world that increasingly refuses to comply.

Dear Kooka.....
please accept my sincere apology for saying your comments were to long. I was really asking myself these questions, but I am well aware that our comprehension levels are opposite and I know that you are right and I am wrong so please accept my apology.

I wish I knew all religious texts better so that I could write a post about them.  It is harder to write about stuff you know little about.  I know a fair amount about the Bible, so it is easier for me to use that for examples.  I have been much harder on Scientology and Astrology (Both of which I find to be rather silly, although believe it or not I still treat them with equal respect) than I have been on Christianity, in the posts that I have written about them.  But I do end up writing more about Christianity because that is the faith that is right there in my face the most.  It is also what I have had the most experience with.  Read my last post here where I talk about this.

I am not picking on Christianity.  This post it self can relate to a few other religions as well since it does talk about the Old Testament, which is used by more than just Christianity.  I have been trying to use believers much more often now because that does cover a wider range of faiths than just Christianity.  So a fair amount of my posts go beyond Christians, which has been the basic idea I have been going for.  A belief in God is not solely a Christian thing.

I thought that comment did not feel right coming from you, or at least the impression I got from it did not fit with the impression I normally get from you

I am curious as to why you say I am self-centered.
I will admit to having a 'know-it-all' attitude, but I would not consider any of the answers I gave to show me to be self-centered.

As for the length, I am sorry if felt the comment was long.  It did contain most of your post, since I decided to answer you question by question.  That is far from being the longest comment I have left. As for being unsolicited, you asked questions and I gave answers.  Don't ask questions if you do not want answers.  Questions in general solicit answers.  Even hypothetical ones.

kooka, I don't disagree with you...I just wanted to see what you'd say. I

do think that it would be more genuine for you to relegate all religious texts taught as fact to the trash heap however rather than just picking on Christnianity.

As to how to answer your question, I read you and others I don't always agree with just to see what they have to say.  Its like in Iceland when I spent an evening with a girl who grew up on a farm in the pretty (by Icelandic terms) little village of Selfoss.  Despite our biological relationship she had no way of relating to someone who'd been thru the American experience of war or the mentlity of nationalism, just as I would not likely be able to truly relate to someone who survived the destruction of a village during the genocide in Rawanda.

I read and ask just to see where part of our country is coming from.  A friend and I camped out at the Gorge in WA during a Wide Spread Panic weekend last summer for the same reason.  Understanding.

I agree with you Kooka....
In your own little self-centered world your answers are perfect, they would have to be for someone to use up so much comment space with unsolicited testimonials.

Glad to hear that.

I also just left you a bunch of answers to your questions.

Hope you enjoy them.

Keep in mind those answers are my opinions and the way I see the world.  Although I still think I should get a perfect score on that test.

if you don't believe in something, then what is the big deal. I guess I need to thank you, your writings did inspire a poem for me.

First off, although I have never once denied believing such, this post actually does not such thing.  This post only points out the facts about the Bible and who wrote it all.  I was trying to show the flaws sins oem people's ways of thinking.  Also, there are many religions out there which do not follow the Bible you know.

Now on to why I keep writing about religion if I believe it is all bullshit.  Well, I write about religion because it is right there in your face every time you turn around.  you cannot escape it.  If one is to figure out man kind one needs to figure out religion.  You do not figure anything out by just accepting what is presented to you.  You need to ask questions, you need to make observations and you need to see what other believe.  I present these ideas to see how others think when they present their beliefs.

It really matters not what I believe, because I will not figure anything out by just understanding myself better.  I need to ask the questions and look at the beliefs that are out there in order ot better my knowledge and understanding.

If you disagree with what I said here, show me my mistakes and where you believe I got it wrong. Obviously just saying 'The Bible says' is not going to do it.

You know, you might want to read my last post in my blog 'Do Not Read Any of my Blogs' here to get an idea of how to present your beliefs to me.

Kooka, you consider all religion bullshit (based on this argument and
previous ones).  So why keep thinking about it?
