Thank you for the compliment, Dennison...
Currently, I see maybe three or four movies a week tops.  Winter weather is fairly unpleasant here.  And, I live very close (within hopping distance) to three movie theaters ... so, that's where my boyfriend (as well as, girlfriends) and I usually gravitate to.

Did Somebody Say Satan Worship?

And didn't invite me?

What gives?

By the way, as I was reading, I also wondered how many movies you must watch per week. Heck, I'm lucky if I have time to watch a movie on my television once a week.

Oh, aI almost forgot: Great Post!

Yes, they call them typoes.
A  form of satan-worship.

Only when I was contractually obligated to, Gubby.
Btw, what's an amaeur?  Is that some sort of "new-fangled religion"?

It's cool, Jack Flash...
my comments are often misconstrued.  Partly due to my "unique" "sense of humor", but also partly due to my stubborn refusal to simply leave a generic line (such as "Good post!" or "Intriguing...", etc.).  I try to be creative as possible, to (at the very least) prove I did actually read the post.

Woa, you must watch like... three movies every day?

I have no idea about movies, being just an amaeur here, but I'll say "you look like you really know your stuff". [as an alternative to "great post"]

MPO,

Thanks for that info.  I have seen parts of the awards on TV, and there was stuff there that I hadn't even heard of that looked well worth renting.  Now all I have to do is copy your list.  Your comment on my blog got me over here.  I hope I didn't piss you off.  You just happened to hit at a time when my brain was exploding on a bunch of things and I flew off the handle.  Sorry.  You may not have even noticed much, but I always feel crappy when I do something like that.  I'll be back to read you some more now that you got my attention.

The message of "Crash" is certainly admirable ...
however, the conclusion of the story is soooo contrived, as to really stretch all credulity.

MPO,
Of the ones that I've seen, I'd say Crash did not really impress me, either.   Jon Stewart is a great choice for host, I think.  I have wanted to worship at his feet ever since he went on Tucker Carlson's show and said, "I'm not your monkey".

That was one where I was pretty confident I knew it...
the minute I saw the sketch.

Outstanding! I can't hope to watch all of these movies but will read more published reviews soon.

Congrats for winning on the S. African leader's sketch.

Well, there's still time ...
you have a month (to cram all these movies in) before the big night.

Interesting
I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had actually seen any of the movies

Yeah. Solely based on merit (not to mention, critical praise) ...

"A History of Violence" should have been a lock.

As far as Dillon, he was fine ... but, there are so few slots and so many, many wonderful performances.  He just wouldn't have made my top five, that's all.

posted by Mademoiselle on January 31, 2006 at 6:26 AM | link to this | reply

I can't believe The History of Violence was not nominated for a best picture.  Philip Seymour Hoffman should have the Best Actor on lock, but Heath Ledger's performance in Brokeback was powerful and surprised me with its subtlety and depth.  I don't disagree with nominating Matt Dillon for best supporting actor because using alternative narrative strategies should not preclude a film from any award.  I think his performance was strong in that movie.

Thank you both so much!

It's makes it all worth while.  Cause, I seriously think I strained something.

I watched the telecast live (8:45 AM here) and I posted this by 8:47 ... that has to be some sort of record.  Albeit, an utterly meaningless one.
