fw, the truth is you should feel that way.
If more people felt that way, we would have less abject poverty in the world.

What's sad is that I feel we are responsible for their poverty ....
I know I;m a bleeding heart with no killer instinct, but deep down I feel they are no different than we are, and that we have no business thinking we are superior to them.

Ginnieb, I feel a sense of guilt
over everything I have when I see films like this. The movie you are thinking of is "Born Into Brothels". It won the academy award last year for Best Documentary.

What a disturbing commentary Cynthia...
...perhaps the release of the film will nudge some to help out more or at least to open our eyes to our fellow human beings.  What tragedies exist!  As you say they see themselves as ordinary people...their spirit has got to be inspiring in a sad sort of way.  I forget the name of the docu that goes into the Indian 'red light' district and chronicles the children of prostitutes and their eventual interest in photography as a way to see themselves and the world around them in a different light.  It was amazing...also tragic.
