littlemspickles, people shouldn't own monkeys as they are like people and
need the same amount of freedom. We made a huge mistake, I did that is, in going to get her at the pet store. My friend's monkey, brought from Brasil to Texas, had to go into a zoo there as he became a vicious biter and had fabulously dangerous teeth, being male. Mine was a female, easier to deal with, but still, though I adored her, I should never have gotten her.
I hate the people who kill the mothers, leaving little orphans in the jungles to starve. Someone rescued her, after eating her mother. Australia must have good laws then, protecting animals. I got my money forty-five years ago.....she is gone now.

I never knew you could have monkeys as pets.
I don't think you can here in Australia. Sounds like she was a handful.

Mom knew a woman who owned one of the chimps whoplayed "Cheetah"
in the Tarzan movies. She (it was a female, didn't want to shock the moviegoers) grew and matured and, being a chimp and not a human, became dangerously strong and destructively inclined. I vaguely remember seeing the poor critter sitting in a bare, large steel and concrete cage with glass to prevent spitting.

@@ here >>>>>>> "BENZI" is MONKEY SAVVY !!!
My dad promised me a monkey, someday but I never did get one! Since I was only 5 or 6 years old at the time, perhaps it was all for the best, huh? Thanks for sharing
I really enjoyed this piece
