Sigh! I suppose you're right, Pat_B - it wasn't really too much like Burns, but it had me giggling by the stanza.

That is unusual, Blanche. A Russian wearing a kilt? I met lots of Polish miners, during WWII who wore the kilt and drank whisky like water, but can't remember any Russians doing the same.

When you write of mice and men
and plowed fields, and many a slip between cup and lip, you're Robert Burns... And I'm thinking his anniversary tribute is not a Londonderry Aire... But great fun:)

Let's hear it for the Scots, mon!
That is a hoot! I have a funny family story: my Russian grandfather, emigrated to the US, then went to Canada to enlist in the Royal Canadian Scottish Highlanders (I have no idea how that happened, except that he did it after he damaged an ear in a munitions plant explosion), and went to France in WWI in a kilt! A Russian in a kilt?!
Anyway, he did buy me a few plaid tam oshanters as a kid, and had a big fancy Scotch bottle, long since emptied, that played a Scottish tune when wound up. Enjoy Robbie Burns, lang mae ye reek!

Ah, Johnmcnab, Ye make me miss me Mom.
No one could read Robert Burns aloud like my mom. We loved for her to read his poems to us. My head's a itching just thinking of her reading us

ginnie
I was like that when Andy sent me it, ginnie. I was spluttering all over the screen, and eventually had to print it off in order to read it. It would take a heck of a lot of Malt before I could stand up and recite anything - especially at a Burns night.
My Father used to recite the same lines to me, ginnie. His name was Tom, as well. I can remember him shaking his head at me and reciting........
Ah, Tam! Ah, Tam! Thou'll get thy fairin!
In hell, they'll roast thee like a herrin'!
.........I can't remember the rest of it, because by that time he'd got the message across. Good luck with the recitation, ma wee lass.

Omigod...this is totally hilarious Mac!!!!!!!
I'm in a coffee shop, on my own, feeling a bit of a goof, laughing away here!!! Thanks a lot!! Hahahahha!!! Ah John McBurns...tis a hilarious poem ya did write!! Will ye be reciting it anywhere in honour of the great poet? Will ye be allowed?? We're going to a Robbie Burns 'do' on Friday night...my 4th! My father used to recite a little ditty that his mother used to say to him...his name was Tom ;)
Tam oh Tam you'll git yer farin
The deils will roast ya like a herron
No like a herron but like a troot
And once ye git in
You'll ne'er git oot!
Pardon my 'spelling'! I was made to recite this at a RB affair and was told it's a bastardized version of a few lines from Tam O'Shanter. I now have a few of Robbie's books! I ordered a tartan serape (Drummond) from Scotland to wear on Friday night but alas, I don't think it will arrive on time. Damn those Sc.... oops! ;) I am hoping to 'get out of' writing and reciting a rebuttal for the toast to the lassies...I have to drink way too much whisky before I can do it!
Thanks for a hilarious poem Mac!! LOL!! (still)
