Now that was a good honest reply. And you do have some good point to make. In this case it is not that we are living any more unhealthy than those who came before us, but that we know we are and have full knowledge that what we are doing is bad for us.
But that is not the reasoning these believers are using as to why we are so 'sinful' and 'wicked'.

It's like Screwtape says..
"...why use a gun when a deck of cards will do?" You could be right about different times, outlaws and crimes, but there are other types of sin. On first glance, they are less egrigious, and yet, the sheer volume of sinners and their subtle sinning threaten to cripple the health care system. Cigarette smokers, and out of control eaters - consuming billions in medical interventions, and forcing a nation to pick up the tab.
It's amazing how much energy we consume just by sitting on our hines, in front of our computers, or TV's, innocently minding our own business.
That energy has to come from somewhere - we are consuming natural resources at an unsustainable rate. We are destroying species of plan and wildlife like never before.
Oh, we sin my brothah....and we get a lot more of it done through sloth, and passivity, then the sharp shooting hustlers who came before us.

It is odd that people would wish the end upon us
I'm not ready to be at the end yet. I have some things yet on my "to do" list.
Good sermon, reverend.
