Xeno-x -- exactly --- when I hear such things as what Pat Robertson said
about hurricane Katrina being divine retribution, how can one not laugh at the stupidity of it? One just needs to look at a handful of such natural disasters to realize that the patterns are completely random. If any form of precursive influence could be ascribed to such disasters, it would be entirely a man made influence, such as where we choose to build our houses and how our lifestyles affect our environment. A grand puppeteer throwing these things at us to "test us" is an absurd and irreconcileable contention.

sannhet -- I was 12 years old at the time
or right about the time in my life where I was only capable of adhering to one timeworn religiously derived mantra; God helps those who help themselves

nature does not discriminate
many christians' idea of god is so unreal -- he is supposed to be great and merciful.
even Jesus said that such isn't so -- everyone gets the good things and the bad things -- no discrimination there and no real "blessing" -- we just have to look at life realistically and muddle through the best we can.

Gome -
What a harrowing experience. How old were you? I agree that "God" is not responsible for what happens to us, good or bad. But I do think that we can have an affect on how things go for us, based on the attitude we live.
