Joe Love, that is what I've decided to do and...
don't forget I live with unemployed writer who can work with me

Azur
I think you should take the job.  I mean, you do get one-half of the week for yourself.  Money is money, and I'm guessing you need it.  Take the job, but keep your eyes peeled for something better.  If you're doing a great job for him and he wants to keep you around, he'll raise you if you are offered something else.

Thirtysomething, I do too. I am inclined to do exactly as you say

I was thinking PatB
"oranges are not the only fruit"  . I don't now if you ever heard of a novel by that name but all this talk of oranges made me think of it

Hog away anytime

it's serendipity...
or Karma... one good thing you did  bounces into something else and like billiards, all kinds of things click against all kinds of other things. You've been working, paying your dues, sooner or later, nobody will question your 5-orange price because they'll know it's not an expense - it's an investment.  Way to go!  :)pat

Sorry about hogging the space earlier!

I've done this before
...I'd take the job, personally, keeping good records of hours. Keep it down to the agreed time, deadlines-be-damned. If time becomes an issue, perhaps he'll renegotiate. You never know what the job may lead to in the future...(Of course, I have a tendency to overwhelm myself with work...)

Youv'e scraped by so far without him.  Hold out for 4 oranges, Azur.  You're worth it.

Very interesting, Azur. I like the way you have set this up for us.
It would be a difficult decision to make.   Will you let us know what you decide?

I'm not sure
I'd push for 4 - If you don't feel it's worth it for 3 or 3,5. There's no point in taking work at a discounted rate that will make you unhappy unless there is some other benefit. As you're ghost-writing, you won't be able to add to your portfolio, as you said.

They run both ways. Even with a contract.

Have a nice lawyer look over your contract. No contract? Then "Ja, matta ahtodei"*.

I like the idea of telling him that 4 oranges is your bottom dollar.
Good Luck!

I am a firm believer
that you already know what you want, you just have to listen to what that little voice is saying.

Uh, okay...
first I came here initially to say you have mail. Second, it's possible I might know something that could help you out, but I will have to read through again and see if it applies or not. I fell into a freelance online documentation for a stint once.
