Ohhhhhhh!! That's horrible to make it to the 60, then to invest even MORE time to make the second cut ONLY to be eliminated!! I'm sure he's devastated!!

It was tough, and in that case you need a half day of feeling sorry for yourself. As you say there are many routes open to him and he is in a better place than the many who did not make the shortlist

I can't imagine the agony of waiting for the results. To get so far in the competition and not make the cut. But it was a competition for one particular publishing house. Your partner can try others. He can even try abroad. Good luck to him, Azur

it's true there is some encouragement in there (although you can't live on that). We think that it would be helpful if he could have a brain transplant and specialize in another genre. We have a friend, a contemporry professionally, who has published three crime novels already. But crime fiction is in that friend's heart and soul. It's funny because his main character has characteristics which the author based on my partner.

Just making the short list
should be a marketing tool to get another editor/publisher to take a look. He found this one, there'll be another. This is a good thing for a first novel! Good luck!
