Corbin Dallas,
When someone accuses me of not getting a point, I usually go back and re-read their message! It is clear you were trying to make light of Al Gore at the expense of a "Decent Human Being"! Your choice of person was deliberate and mean spirited! I chose to respond in kind! Again lose the "Label" tactic! I am not impressed!

Corbin Dallas,
I guess there is less humor in a man seeing UFO's in Iraq than an "Honest" man relating an experience with the unknown! Jimmy Carter is viewed as a decent human being! Present some "real" fact to contradict that and you have a story!

Corbin, I'm laughghghghging at the comments.

Didn't know your little blog would blow up into such a huge conversation!

And regarding Al Gore, the first thing that came to mind when I heard about his speech was "you two faced hypocritical idiot!" I mean, really, before he blew off all this steam (and most of his brains, it would seem) it had been discussed multiple times in the previous days how the Clinton/Gore White House had also used the same wiretapping and without warrants.  So who does he think he's kidding??? I generally turn the TV off when he starts with his pontificating.

I couldn't help but notice one blogger said Clinton was no longer hunting...that Bush won...wow, it only took 6 years for them to realize that... We've been telling them to "get over it" for so long, maybe they actually have........Nah..

It's like talking to a parrot....

When one goes on the attack like Al Gore did...it is perfectly relevant to bring up anything that is related to the topic of the person on the attack......It demonstrates the hypocracy of the advocate....Gore was a part of an administration that did it too....had his point had a genuine intent...had he believed in what he was saying completely....he would have mentioned the items I listed as an example of how this has been going on on all sides.......

But that wasn't the purpose ol Big Al's talk.....it was to attack the President....and get Igor., I mean,  Al Gore some attention.  He still has aspirations for the White House...and therein lies his motive......not the saving of the Consitituion.

Hello Corbin,
For some people -belief in the UFO is , to some extent, as absurd as- for materialists-belief in God. And for spiritualists it is natural to feel the God' presence, but belief in the possibility of life in the outer space seems to be wrong. Who is right, we don't know for sure, do we? So I think ex-politicians (like Mr Carter) can express their own opinions, take into account that it isn't harmful...

Just once I'd like to have an exchange of ideas with a conservative when they DO NOT BRING UP CLINTON. This dog won't hunt guy. Clinton has been out of office for 5 years! Get over it. Could we talk about 2006? – It would appear that your stance is George is right, but Clinton was wrong too, so George isn't any “wronger” that Bill was when he did it. ??? Did I get that right?

Actually I read the text 2 times...the first time I fell asleep around word 8432.....

Wonder why he failed to mention..........

when the Clinton/Gore administration used warrantless searches:

Clinton Administration Deputy Attorney General Jamie S. Gorelick: "(T)he Department Of Justice Believes, And The Case Law Supports, That The President Has Inherent Authority To Conduct Warrantless Physical Searches For Foreign Intelligence Purposes And That The President May, As Has Been Done, Delegate This Authority To The Attorney General." (Deputy Attorney General Jamie S. Gorelick, Permanent Select Committee On Intelligence, U.S. House Of Representatives, Testimony, 7/14/94)

In 1994, President Clinton Expanded The Use Of Warrantless Searches To Entirely Domestic Situations With No Foreign Intelligence Value Whatsoever. In A Radio Address Promoting A Crime- Fighting Bill, Mr. Clinton Discussed A New Policy To Conduct Warrantless Searches In Highly Violent Public Housing Projects." (Charles Hurt, "'Warrantless' Searches Not Unprecedented," The Washington Times, 12/22/05)

"One Of The Most Famous Examples Of Warrantless Searches In Recent Years Was The Investigation Of CIA Official Aldrich H. Ames, Who Ultimately Pleaded Guilty To Spying For The Former Soviet Union. That Case Was Largely Built Upon Secret Searches Of Ames' Home And Office In 1993, Conducted Without Federal Warrants." (Charles Hurt, "'Warrantless' Searches Not Unprecedented," The Washington Times, 12/22/05)

President Bill Clinton: "(T)he Attorney General Is Authorized To Approve Physical Searches, Without A Court Order, To Acquire Foreign Intelligence Information For Periods Of Up To One Year ..." (President Bill Clinton, Executive Order 12949, "Foreign Intelligence Physical Searches," 2/9/95)

Well....he was part of an administration that had the highest number of cases of selective amnesia per capita in recent history.................

Loved your comment "I get it......it's a conspiracy.....I've been off sick a couple of days.....and this is what I get......a setup!" It must be a conspiracy, it couldn't possibly be that your attempt at sarcastic wit fell short! Its just those stupid liberals ganging up on you. -- Jimmy Carter is a fine humanitarian, and had you tuned in to Gore's speech, you would have found it thououghly researched and well delivered, but as a NeoCon you don't want to experience the "other side" as you'd have to refute his points with facts instead of party mantra. -- For sane liberals out there, you can probably catch it on CSPAN. And while not a true Gore fan myself, he expressed most of my major concers of late.

This isn't new.  Carter has brought this up before.

His description is typical of a bright star or of Venus.  Venus is probably the most common UFO sighting there is.  When a bright star or Venus are low to the horizon they can flicker wildly through all the colors of the rainbow but mainly red and blue and tricks of perspective can make it appear as though its moving.

When I used to go out with my telescope I've seen some pretty wild phenomenon such as this myself.  I can certainly see where it could baffle a person who didn't know what they were looking at.

I guess I missed it then, cause all I read was a blurb about Jimmy Carter:
"Former President Jimmy Carter told GQ magazine for a January article that he saw a UFO in 1969 in southwest Georgia as he was preparing to speak at a Lions Club meeting. He recalled that it was a bright light that got "closer and closer to us," but then "changed color to blue," then to red, then back to white, and then "receded into the distance." However, he said, "I've never believed it came from Mars." [GQ, January 2006]

Well, you're right, looking at it, I think I missed a couple points
in my assertion.  You're poking fun at Jimmy Carter for having publicly stated that he saw a UFO in Georgia in 1969. I do think that after the infamous "I have lust in my heart" Playboy interview back in the day, he should be more careful about what he says to the media, but that's his call.

What I meant was, is it a stretch to compare seeing a UFO, which literally means Unidentified Flying Object, to believing in the Gospel, which is a commonly accepted belief, and one which I hold myself?  After all, as blasphemous as it may sound, Jesus himself was at one point a UFO, during his ascension, if I read that right.

So, as laughable as it sounds, former President Carter saw something in the sky over Georgia after a Liions Club meeting in 1969. I'm thinking that his wiser course would have been the course of discretion. I'm just thankful that he found it in his conscience to uphold the federal abortion laws, which was also discussed in that interview.  As goofy as he sounds, he has done great humanitarian work by founding Habitat for Humanity.

Well, you know, Corbin,

I believe in the virgin birth of the son of God, who then was crucified and returned to life, reportedly to return to Earth at an unspecified date during a time prophetically designated only by cryptic revelations to dreaming prophets.  Is it such a stretch to include this? After all, "there are more things betwixt heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy, Horatio" (somewhere in Hamlet). Below is the GQ excerpt from former President Carter's interview for easy reference (the interviewer's question is in bold)

One of the other aspects of your life that struck me as a conflict between your experience and your scientific training was that you saw a UFO.

I saw an unidentified flying object. I’ve never believed that it came from Mars. I know enough physics to know that you can’t have vehicles that are tangible in nature flying from Mars, looking around, and then flying back. But I saw an object one night when I was preparing to give a speech to a Lions Club. There were about twenty-five of us men standing around. It was almost time for the Lions Club supper to start, which I would eat and then I would give a speech. I was in charge of fifty-six Lions Clubs in southwest Georgia back in the late ’60s. And all of a sudden, one of the men looked up and said, “Look, over in the west!” And there was a bright light in the sky. We all saw it. And then the light, it got closer and closer to us. And then it stopped, I don’t know how far away, but it stopped beyond the pine trees. And all of a sudden it changed color to blue, and then it changed to red, then back to white. And we were trying to figure out what in the world it could be, and then it receded into the distance. I had a tape recorder—because as I met with members of Lions Clubs, I would dictate their names on the tapes so I could remember them—and I dictated my observations. And when I got home, I wrote them down. So that’s an accurate description of what I saw. It was a flying object that was unidentified. But I have never thought that it was from outer space.
