All writers can write their own checks....but few can actually cash out the amounts. Lol.

Thanks for the advice!

If They Call You've Got The Gig, If They Write You've Been Blown Out

I'll have to remember that.  I still get excited when I see something in the mail that I THINK is a NON-rejection slip, lol!  :-)

I would keep my fingers crossed for you
but that would hinder my typing... instead I'll just think positive.  Glad you are sticking to your guns.

Ca88andra thanks.
I never imagined getting a teaching qualification. I was more concerned with getting some skills but it turns out the qualification will help me get that kind of work. I won a scholarship so I would have been mad not to go through with it. I don't want to teach full time. I like that I still do what I teach/.
You work at a university don't you? You might be able to study at a reduced fee and also even get time off from work for classes. A friend of mine does that.

Lately I've been thinking of getting teaching qualifications... Hope everything works out the way you want it to!

Writing their own check?
For that matter, how many burger-flippers, video-store clerks, Wal-Mart greeters, or professors get to write their own checks?  The deal about being a writer is that you get to make decisions, rather than suggestions... That's what I like. :)pat

In answer to your headline...

The town elders hired a young veteran to polish the memorial cannon in the town square. Now, he had ambition and wanted to be his own man, so he saved, worked overtime, and in time he was able to buy that cannon and go into work for himself.

So, the answer is...

A self-published one!

 BAD majroj!
