Smartdog,
IMO, I think it's better business to have humans to talk to!

Fires

Personally, I have no patience for those things.  I usually end up screaming the word "agent!" a dozen times untill I finally get a human being on the phone.  When I run for president I'll make it illegal for any company to have voice response units.  They'll just have to hire people.  Good post.

Sometimes if you don't press anything, you get a live operator to talk to! Even if they are in India...

strat,
I hear ya! What is it with no human employees? It was bad enough when we just got put on hold to wait a few hours to talk to someone while listening to "your call is very important..." Bullshit. If it was you'd answer the damn phone! Now it's all this new crap...  **sigh**

I hate those friggin' things!
My insurance company now has this thing that is a voice prompted recording to pay your bill. It's designed to sound exactly like a real person doing the transaction.

So why the fuck aren't they paying a real person to do the transaction?

And another thing. Is there like, a serious career path and good money to be made being a phone menu redesigner? Will we soon see the Wharton School of Business and Phone Menu technology? Geez! Where does it end?

Amen to that Girl!
My husband loves those commercials on T.V. where the guy is listening to the credit card automated menu selections and ends up catching his kitchen on fire cause his steak is burning! LOL

Don't forget the kids running in the background screaming
and yelling.  Although I must say that their yelling seems to get me through to the right representative quicker than I can get myself through!
