Typical of the government. They lower their standards and then say the aren't.

I wouldn't be surprised
if the goals were lowered

Corbin

And...

October 3, 2005 -- Army Moves To Recruit More High School Dropouts -- WASHINGTON - Army Secretary Noel Harvey and vice chief of staff Gen. Richard Cody said Monday that the Army was using looser Defense Department rules that permitted it to sign up more high school dropouts and people who score lower on mental-qualification tests, but they denied that this meant it was lowering standards. The Army has a recruiting shortfall of 6,000 to 8,000 soldiers over the past 12 months. It hasn't fallen so short of its annual goal since 1979, several years after the Vietnam war. -- Mercury News

Corbin (and Scoop)

And some more facts...

June 4, 2005 -- The US military has stopped battalion commanders from dismissing new recruits for drug abuse, alcohol, poor fitness and pregnancy in an attempt to halt the rising attrition rate in an army under growing strain as a result of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The US military has stopped battalion commanders from dismissing new recruits for drug abuse, alcohol, poor fitness and pregnancy in an attempt to halt the rising attrition rate in an army under growing strain as a result of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. An internal memo sent to senior commanders said the growing dropout rate was "a matter of great concern" in an army at war. It told officers: "We need your concerted effort to reverse the negative trend. By reducing attrition 1%, we can save up to 3,000 initial-term soldiers. That's 3,000 more soldiers in our formations." – Guardian Unlimited (UK)

Hat's off to you guy! You posted, Scoop filled in some holes, and you were so graceful in your response. See how nicely it can all work. We investigate, share, discuss, and come up with real observations and real plans, not spin and bulls**t. (I'd put one of those thumbs up critters right here, but it goes against my grain.)

Corbin,
Thanks, I learned a lot just reading the back and forth between you and Scoop.  I had a feeling that the truth, as they say, is somewhere in the middle.

Corbin I know you wouldn't do that, actually I was having some fun with it
because I had read the story and thought it was good news until I saw the December numbers.

Oh.....and,

Scoop....Thanks for pointing that out.....

Had I known, as Paul Harvey would say,  the rest of the story.....I probably would not have bothered with the post.

Corbin, Corbin, Corbin how many times have you accused me

of not telling all of the story? That I take things out of context.

I am very glad to see the branches meeting their goals but support for the war? You left this out;

Army officials have said they expect this to be an extremely difficult year for recruiting, in part because of the Iraq war. Last year, the service fell 6,600 troops short of its goal of 80,000.

So far, in the first three months of this budget year, the Army has recruited just 11,500 soldiers and will need to do better in coming months to meet the target for the year.

Part of the problem with the first quarter is that the December goal is just a fraction of the other monthly targets. It only required the Army to recruit 700 soldiers last month, compared to the November target of 5,600.

See how it looks when you tell the whole story and don't take anything out?

YOU NAILED IT AGAIN!

My friend you nailed it again! I served in the Navy during the Vietnam war. I volunteered, it never occurred to me that I might get shot or killed. Innocent people were being killed and their freedom was being taken away from them. In my mind there was only one right thing to do, and that was to help stop mad men from taking over the world and imposing their sick will on the rest of us. Now I know that war is note the answer, BUT! I could write a book to you at this point so let me make just one point. Who we really are never dies! This situation we find ourselves in that we call life is an illusion, play if you will. We chose the parts we play and we can change our minds if we don’t like the ones we have chosen. Have no fear the Truth will set you Free!
