Xeno-x - I've done that before myself
One late and groggy night I was leaving a few comments while formulating a post in my head. When I finally put it all together and sat down to write it I was a little dismayed to find that I had posted it in Ody's comments section instead. ....no more sniffing glue for me after that one.

Zoe_BooBoo -- did you make a wrong turn somewhere?
Is there a discussion about Deuteronomy going on in another comments section? No problem. Just more Old Testament mumbo jumbo. Kill anyone in your family who mentions the name of another God......good sound modern day advice that is. Useful in today's society. ......and people get upset at me having the audacity to refer to this document as a book of gibberish.

Trufflesaurus -- we have some bible thumping wackos on my wife's side of
the family. I've known them for just over 25 years, they are on their 4th church division. I've lost track of what they call their church now so I took the liberty of giving it a suitable name. "The Church of we are right and you are wrong."  ...because that seems to be the only thing they stand for. Proving everyone else wrong about their beliefs. They think being part of a religious group that has subdivided 4 times in 25 years is normal and the reasons have been lillipution in nature.

Xeno

Please explain to me exactly HOW I have "misread" passage from Deuteronomy:

If you brother, the son of your mother and father, or your son or daughter......blah, blah, blah......tries to secretly seduce you, saying "Let us go and serve other Gods"............blah..blah.....blah......you must not listen to him, you must show him no pity.   No, you must kill him...........blah, blah,blah...You must stone him to death, since he has tried to divert you from Yahwek your God (13:7-11)

This is just ONE of HUNDREDS of such passages.  Please open your mind.  Religion is pushing our civilization into the abyss.

Great post,  by the way.......

Zoe

Isn't it ironic?

I did a paper on the secularisation of early modern europe for university history class.  What I ended up discovering was that the biggest contributor to this trend was.........that's right folks....the Protestant Reformation.  When once choice was introduced, then there was ground on which other choices could be smothered.  People who didn't like what was going on in their church could take their hymn book and go start another church.....or stop going altogether.

I do like your comment about the Bible being like a gun.  Too often abused in the heat of the moment for personal gain.

the Bible is like guns.
"It's not guns that kill people, it's people."
"It's not the Bible that's so messed up, it's the people who misread, misinterpret, misunderstand it and then go off on a crusading tangent to force everyone else into their wayof thinking.
