Ariel Sharon should not be remembered as a hero. His Government have been ruthless during his reign in their often illegal actions in Palestine. Sharon has done many a dodgy deal with America in his time, and he has been responsible for hiding the truth about Israel's nuclear weapons programme. His politics have at times made him nothing more than a dictator.

Shucks, Kingmi, not sure I can wait 25 years!
But in all seriousness, he will leave a massive void in Israeli politics. I am saddened at the vicious glee of many of the Palestinians and other Arabs. It will be very telling to see how the situation unfolds.

His final reckoning. He has no say in this battle. For once.

Kingmi, you're right about obesity . . .
but I also have a theory about his massive stroke. The news said that the whole thing developed with chest pain. Since his small stroke he was placed on a blood thinner called Lovenox (relatively fairly safe drug compared with the other blood thinners out there) to help keep him from forming new clots from that small hole in his heart. Anyway, then the day of his massive stroke, with the chest pain, I sort of wonder whether his personal physician, following the standard chest pain protocol, gave him two Aspirin on top of the Lovenox. From what I heard he had the stroke in the ambulance on his way north to Hadasseh Hospital, just time enough for the aspirin to take effect. Add to that a spike in blood pressure and -- there you have it -- massive stroke. True, it could have been from the Lovenox, but it's much less common to have such a terrible side effect of that drug.
Anyway, just some speculations on the events of that day. The ICU nurse in me is desperate for more info so that my imagination doesn't run quite so wild . . . .

Kingmi, The story is not modern day fiction. It is true, so many are so
young they do not know all the stories. God will not have that land chopped up. The last Prime Minister who tried to divide it to keep peace was assassinated. Israel will not fall, it will only appear to do so. It is so amazing of all the things I am being laughed at about and called on here, why has no one said anything about the blatant facts that Iran has openly said Israel should be wiped off the face of the Earth? They will not be!
Good Post!

CD, blagging, OBP, I need to reread that book. The Israeli people deserve
peace. I thought Sharon would last longer than he did, but it goes to show how obesity can destroy us.

I have heard that story too. What a great warrior and visionary! He has done a fine job over there! If ever there was a natural born leader, it is he!

dispute all his critics, sharon has had a great life
and is an asset to the Israeli people.
Is Sharon actually mentioned in Exodus, or does Uris give him another name? It's a few years since I read it.
I think I've heard that story about Sharon in Sharm el-Sheik too.
I'm not a fan of Netanyahu - my money is on Olmert!
