Blanche

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better.........

I have seen the book you're talking about.  It's been a few years though.

Happy New Year, Corbin_Dallas,
I haven't seen this. I'd have to study it to have an opinion, but I agree that "figure lie and liars will figure".  (I'm not referring to you, of course).  Someday, I'd like to get a hold of a copy of the book I've heard of for years, "How to Lie With Statistics".  I've been around enough really smart people to know that numbers can be played with to give whatever impression the writer or speaker intends to give.  The truth is another matter.

I am gladen to have fellows over here like you who do not easily get carried away with the wave of American bashing. Contrary to what most claim, America and Americans are respected around the globe and not regarded as imperial power. Thanks for being on here and God Bless.

Can Bloggers really be fooled by numbers?
Good post.  Some interesting information you have given.  The numbers might be wrong, but I think it's the military prescence whether it be 100,000 troops or 1 troop, which gives the rest of the world the concept of American Imperialism.  If you like, the troops are representatives of American Imperialism, in the eyes of the the countries mentioned.

Those who would define America as imperialistic ignore America's love of
freedom and all that we have done to help and support those who are not so blessed. We help them, too, at great cost, to find and enjoy freedom.

I appreciate your comments and support on this little issue......

I am not attacking Hemlocker personally....It's just that the author of the article in the post  is flat out twisting those numbers in a false and misleading manner...

This type of Infantile Liberialism is what we see coming from the Anti-War, Anti-Administration crowd controlling the Democrat party today.......

corbin,
I hope you drop by and read the comment I left for hemlocker. I attacked him pretty good and gave you credit for exposing him along with a few others. I don't usually use such strong language for someone, but when a person is an obvious idiot he needs to be put in his place. The US does so many wonderful things around the world it is amazing. For someone to attack us as being imperial is just stupid. If we so desired we could control every nation on this Earth.

Sorry, that's Hemlocker. My bad.

Hemlocker

It all depends on which ideas presented are foolish.......numbers alone hardly present a point of view......it's how they are used that takes on that viewpoint........the way the numbers given are used in the post is  far from being factual........they are purpously skewed to fit the authors intent...you know.......an agenda.

One quickly learns that when using others claims, and those claims  deal with a large set  of numbers......one should check the figures before leading the charge with bugles blaring.  The DOD report hardly supports the claims of a US Global Empire........

I'm just trying to offer some balance to the claims you support in the post......there's no need to agree on something so obvious....

and you have a very Happy New, too.

Hemlocker did you count that little embassy on the Island of
Skido, one little old lady with a hair dryer for a gun and the cuicits will not allow her to use it. This is a radical and over blown idea I am sure you got your facts right but those facts were not right in the first place as in pulling all the wool back. It will soon be shearing day.

corbin--
Why don't we simply agree to disagree?  The report made clear what was in the United States and what was not.  The list of countries is compelling, isn't it?  I'm not going to get into any drawn out analyses.  When one is so intent on not giving up foolish ideas, no matter what the evidence is in the face of them, what can a poor old fart like me do.  You win, Corbin.  Savor your victory--and have a happy new year.

Depends on the Bloggers I guess
:) good analysis! I saw this same report on a different blog today using it as proof of American Imperialism abroad. The reasoning was a bit specious, depending more on grammar and misinterpretation than fact.
