The political correctoids don't have a chance. As you imply, two-plus millenia later, Christmas ain't going anywhere. Too much cash involved. However, it's now up to individuals and families to remember and respect the real story and meaning of Christmas, if they have a mind to. I think more and more are. Now that we've grown to 20 people, my family has stripped the merchandising aspect down to one gift per person (drawing names), with more emphasis on the family just being together, with several households sharing the gatherings, everybody chipping in. Christmas shopping for one gift and a few stocking stuffers is a breeze. The merchants and marketers would despise us. Amazingly (or maybe it's not so amazing) we're all less bummed and stressed and more inclined to actually have a good time. And we don't spend the next six months paying off a Christmas debt.
