True, there's more to Santa than that. But what's more important is to
decipher what Santa means today and strive to make that Santa a reality

Merry Christmas to you too!
Going to a Nursing home is one fine idea.  There was a time when I and a group of students would go to the local prison.  Fr. Benedict Groeschel from EWTN was just on TV sharing his experiences with hobos on Christmas day.  Gift-giving within the family need not be taken out of the picture, I think.  It is one way of teaching children what the Christmas spirit means.  "For God so loved the world that He gave us His only Son."  should be a great slogan for Christmas.

Very Interesting
I liked the history lesson.  I also knew there was a connection btw St. Nick and Santa but never knew exactly what? Thanks for the information.  I have been slowly getting away from the gift giving of Christmas.  I teach my children that Santa is real if you believe in him.  It is the spirit of Chritmas that I try to emphasize.  Plus, we focus on the birth of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.  We go to Nursing Homes and give our time during the season.  We give each other only one gift!  I have warned my family that if they give more than one gift it will be donated to charity.  Merry Christmas Spirit to you.
