LittleMsP,
I know! Ca88andra said the same thing! Here in the states, we used to call them "thongs" but it doesn't seem to still be called that so often these days. Regardless, they're icky!

something else for your mind to ponder over...
here in Oz, we don't call them flip flops! We call them thongs! And yes a thong (floss that pretends to be underpants) is still a thong in lingerie terms - just a tad confusing don't you think?

Spitfire - the underwear variety are usually called g-strings and sometimes also called thongs.

Cass, okay, I have a ? for ya...
What do you call thong underware down there? (The kind that has a strap right up the butt crack) I have actually heard (when living in Chicago) about flip flops being called thongs!

Funny, Offbeats!! No, I'm NOT dreaming about mittens!!
LOL! In fact, I'm still in Florida, so they would probably be a bit odd looking to others! hehe  Have a great holiday!!

Blanche, sorry! I just noticed your next comments....
K, so no, I wasn't the original Spitfire and I don't even know how long ago there was a "Spitfire" cause last year, I actually tried to change my "handle" to just Spitfire and was denied because someone else (even though they are no longer active and I don't even know when they were) Seems like it's been a while, though. That's Blogit rules, though. Oh well. Alright, so about the spirit questions. Any time is as good as any. If you don't want to post it in a comment, feel free to privately email it to me. No problem. I've had more than the usual amount of reading appointments lately (not that I'm not grateful, of course!!) But I will certainly respond ASAP.

Lol Spitfire! You wouldn't survive in Australia. Flip flops are called thongs down here and they are practically standard wear for summer. Not only are there the basic variety, but there are now upgraded models suitable for any social situation. I've just bought myself some designer ones that will be worn for Christmas Day and probably New Years Eve too.

Hope your feeling better and Merry Christmas!!!

Just out of curiosity, were you the original Spitfire, then have to add the 70, to get your name back?

posted by Blanche. on December 23, 2005 at 8:56 PM | link to this | reply

Hey, you,

I just did this whole thing, I went to check your blog and typed in Spitfire, completely forgetting that you are "Spitfire70".  I just about had a heart attack when I saw "no blogs".  Then Offbeats reminded me of your whole name.  Whew.  Blackcat did the same.  Just wanted you to know that your presence is missed.

Besides, I have a question for you, about spirits.  Maybe I should email you, but now may not be the time.

Funny
Hope you are better.  The noise of the flip flops definitely negates any appeal to me!

posted by Dr_JPT on December 23, 2005 at 7:53 PM | link to this | reply

How much cough medicine did you drink, anyway?
LOL!

My guess is mittens are usually for kids because the fingers held together are better for playing in snow.  ...Keeps the hands warmer.

FlipFlops I can't explain.  I just prefer to ignore them.

Merry Christmas!

Spitfire, I hiked twelve miles through, up and out of the Grand Canyon once wearing flipflops and I was thankful for them.  Its a long story.  LOL    I hope you are feeling better.

It wasn't the faces that I meant when I said ''irritating.''  I was talking about my comment.  Out of respect for the Blogit institution, I wanted to clarify that.

''Don't be sad, be sappy.''  (that's a quote.)  jj

posted by Jack_Flash on December 22, 2005 at 10:55 PM | link to this | reply

Spiffie,

What does the face mean?  I really don't know.  That was my DUH face.  Here is my  Joe Cool, the Incognito face...  and  my OY! Whatta Nut face...  and my UH-OH, gone loco face...  and my Prohibida face...  and some others.  There is a whole slew of other stuff.  Watch out.  I'm sending a bunch by Fed Ex.  When the guy gets there and acts like he has a box full of Tropical Fire Ants, that's it.   (sheep on da lam face).  Oops!  Sheep on da lam?  That sounds like a dirty little faux pax.        jj

      HEY!!
Put your cursor ovet the icon.  A silly name comes up after a second.
That is really irritating, isn't it??

Interesting post, Spitfire....

I have to wear gloves in the winter because of my hands...but I hate 'em!! I never could wear flip flops either, 'cause of my damn spastic feet!!...  Like you though, I can't stand the feeling of anything in between my toes, so I guess it's a good thing after all I can't, huh?

Hope you're feeling a little better today.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Rach, I hear ya, there, but still,
Ick! I can't stand that thingie between the toes! Burning feet, yeah, they help, but regular feet fitting "flops" are so much better than the ones that have that rubber between my big toe and second toe! Blach!

lmao

I loved mittens as a kid!

I actually own a pair of flip flops, but I don't wear them as functional foot wear.  They're more...  one kid is drowing another in the pool so you put them on to keep from burning your feet on the patio type of foot wear.  You know, that sort of thing.

I don't do mittens........flip flops I do. You can't sneak up on anyone in them though!

spitfire--
Mittens are a better design than gloves in really cold weather.  Because they don't separate the fingers, your hands stay warmer.  Merry Christmas and a Happy and Productive New Year!

Spitfire, I could never find them again.
Plus it's too warm here for mittens.  That was when I lived in Denver.

I'm soooo all about mittens.
My boss at my law firm called me Ally McBeal cuz I'd come to work in a full suit, all dressed up with the nice coat, and blue fleece mittens.  I cried when I left them on the bus a year later.  I did.  They were my favorite.

posted by Temple on December 20, 2005 at 7:51 PM | link to this | reply

Amazing the things high fever makes us think about, Young Miss.
I never understood mittens, but I live in my flip flops, at least until frostbite sets in.

posted by strat on December 20, 2005 at 7:20 PM | link to this | reply

LOL... yes. It's a new thing the last year or two. I don't really like
wearing gloves because I can't feel anything.  Someone bought me mittens and I've found that they're easier to just take on and off to do things.... plus they're much warmer.  LOL

posted by -blackcat on December 20, 2005 at 7:12 PM | link to this | reply

spitfire,
I am with you on the subject of mittens and flip flops.  I really hated flip flops (or the kind of shoes that make that flapping sound) when I worked in an office, and you could hear every flip and flop.  I don't understand toe rings, either, ew.

posted by Blanche. on December 20, 2005 at 6:58 PM | link to this | reply

HolyG, how funny...
I was JUST thinking about you! Yeah, I hate those damn things, too. Too icky and werid feeling. I gotta go watch the season finally of NIP/TUCK now! Finally, the revealing of the Carver! Woo Hoo! (Doesn't take much to please me!)

I'm not sure if I've ever worn mittens...And I know I've never worn flip flops. I'm a footaphobic anyway and wouldn't even wear open-toed shoes until I was 34.  But I draw the thing at the netween-the-toe thing!  I hope you feel better soon.  That can't be much fun on top of back pain.

posted by Holy_Grail on December 20, 2005 at 6:53 PM | link to this | reply

I agree with you on flip flops 100%... I just can't wear them.
But I love mittens.  I even sometimes drive with them on, even though I really shouldn't.  LOL

I have never understood the popularity of flip-flops!!! They're ugly; and it's scary when ittle kids traverse rugged territory in those things, flip-flop up and down stairs, etc.,.
