The pitch...
Is the sticky part after all.  My problem is fear of failure when I know not pitching is condemnation to failure.  Thought provoking post.

Ca88andra, if only we did live in that world
though I suspect that people always had to hawk their talents

I would say " I just can't do the things I know I should". Thanks for a great comment

thank you. It is more difficult I think when the topics you write about don't lend themselves to general syndication or general research. Mine are more topic and publication specific. I suppose the upside is that you make more them than general stuff but then they are more labor intensive. You know what I mean I think.

wordsmith,
one way or another I will be writing the equivalent of a book in the coming months. It will come about through teaching

MayB,
I'm glad you benefited from the book. Oh, and btw, would you please stop putting yourself down? You don't deserve that.

I don't mean to add any more complication to your life, but with all the valuable bits of information and advice you have on writing, have you ever thought about writing a book on writing?  When I started reading this post, I thought that the way  to make a Squillion Billion Dollars from writing was by writing a book about writing.

MayB...Chock full of good stuff.
I enjoyed this post and boy, as BlancheD said, "You nailed it on the head." I understand what you mean by not having the right personality to make the squillion billion. Sometimes I do, sometime I do not. It's tough trying to sell written words. Marketing gets in the way. But perseverence is essential.

Marketing is definitely an necessary evil today. Wouldn't it have been great to have lived in the times when writers had patrons who looked after them? Then again, I like having running water, showers and bathrooms... I guess you can't please everyone!

Someone once said "All you need to make a cabin is trees and an axe"...

and VonKlauswitz said that all problems are simple, but the answers are hard.

Advice is fine and genius uplifting, but work and practice will win the day.

Perhaps your inability to get involed simply reflects your maturity and lack of worldiness....

Mayb,
Diana Krall has a great line in a song, which I love: "I got too smart for my own good, I just don't do the things I know I should".  I think you hit the nail on the head about personality, and also, what truly motivates you to write?  Is it to make a squillion dollars, or to make enough to live and write what you feel passionate about?  I can't make myself into a commerical success if it means I can't write the things that grab my heart, either.

Frankenkitty, I thought about copywriting and have done a little for
things that I was interested in or involved in but I don't know enough about it to say. I can give you details of the book title if you like.  I think a lot of these books have answers but they only work if we are prepared to do it. I am aspiring to make a reasonable living. I don't need to make a squillion

I might try this.
I'm no professional writer, but what do I have to lose.  Okay, I'm way ahead of myself. First, I'm going to get a book on writing, and then selling.  What is your opinion on copywriting? I got a brochure for a copywriting course and I thought it might be fun.  Copywriting is commercials, right?  Well, congrats on your success

There must be a market but sadly I am not able to help on that as it's outside my area. You should look at joining a writers center

Do you think there is a market out there for fictional short stories. I would like to publish my post writing when I have about 6 stories finished, (and edited a bit) but it seems most of the money out there is in writing articles which I don't really have a 'passion' for

I didn't know we could do Amazon links here?

If so I know how and I am would be happy to help if need be.
