To All of You,
It  was a glorious day far you to sit on your ass and gloat about how you freed the Iraqi people from the safety of your fantasies! What ever happened to "Bombing Iraq Back into the Stone Age"? Well enjoy this moment there are probably more to come when George Bush is Impeached for his "War" Crimes!

GlenB...tsk,tsk,tsk
such spite and anger inyour words. Is that any way for a So. Baptist (supposed Christian) to react? We all want America to leave Iraq, and we want the death and destruction to end, but this is a very positive step for Iraq. Wether you want to credit America for the recent turn of events or chastise them, they are there and helping oversee this. Either way, this is a good post!

Yes, i would. If I could I would accompany one of those brave Iraqi women to the polls and consider it an honor and a privalege! You are absolutely correct...none of the other stuff matters today. It is the price of freedom.

UPDATE!!!!

The largely peaceful vote, which will raise U.S. hopes that a stable government can pave the way for American troops to pull out of Iraq was in sharp contrast to January's election for an interim assembly, when 40 people died.

Sunni Arabs mostly boycotted that poll but took part with enthusiasm on Thursday, backed by nationalist rebels who vowed to protect those who voted.

Turnout in 10 hours of voting was at least 10 million, or 67 percent, Election Commission chief Hussein Hendawi told Reuters, much higher than the 58 percent seen on January 30.

In Kurdish regions and the Sunni north turnout was high, and in Falluja it touched 70 percent, local officials said.

BrightIrish,
Why is it such a glorious day! What have you done for your fellow man today, other than to endorse and incourage more mayhem and death to humankind. America! Get Out of Iraq you have caused enough misery!

How did I know that you had already done the math? You fail to look at the States, County, Municipal Governments in this Republic? Now try that math for me and then try to make your contention that Itaqis are being represented by this sham hold water!

Glennb

Look at the ignorance of your argument:

275 Seats to govern 27 million people?? The math does not compute!

That's an average of 1 elected representative for every 98,182 Iraqis.

Here in the unitet States we have 535 elected representatives in Congress (100 Senators and 435 congressmen.) for 295,734,134 people.

That's an average of 1 representative for every 552,774 Americans.

Based on your comment...we're a hell of a lot worse off in the representative to citizen ratio........

Your poor spelling has created a truth!!! Check out your next to last sentence and you will be correct. They are trying to get the war criminals (of ) their own soil. Not as you attempted to lie and say off!

Corbin Dallas,
All of these "paid" announcements coming from Iraq?? You are not reading thew Iraqi elections! 275 Seats to govern 27 million people?? The math does not compute! Saddam Hussein had a broader cross-section in his Government! Do you knw why Iraqis are voting? Answer: They are voting to get "war criminals" of of Iraqi soil! Then they will decide how they want to be Governed!

GOOD NEWS!
The turnout is so large even in the Sunni areas that voting has been extended to handle the crowds and insure everyone gets a chance to vote.

OFFBEATS

I am a bit excited about what is going on today.......this is so important to the eventual reduction of our presence over there....

Here's what one voter had to say last night:

“Anybody who doesn’t appreciate what America has done and President Bush, let them go to hell”  – Iraqi Citizen, voter Betty Dawisha

Excellent question...I am amazed by these determinded people of Iraq..This is what it is all about! Democracy, what a concept!

Low voter turn out in the US is a sad state of apathy, ignorance, and no appreciation for the many who have died to insure this right!

To answer your question, I believe in my heart of hearts, it is something I would die for.

Great post...
I am an expatriate currently living in the Middle East.  Whether the "naysayers" want to believe it or not, there is a great deal of hope in this region of the world because of what is going on in Iraq.  These people believe in the United States and its allies and in what they are doing to promote freedom.
