Hem,
It is depressing when you think about it, that this is exactly the way most of deal with our agression towards other people. Thankfully, not all of us feel the need to dominate and/or control and if we do, we try as best we can not to let our emotions drag us along for a rough ride. I try to look at things positively and when I look at my son, I cling to the hope that there are more people who are trying to raise a decent crop of youngsters to replace my generation.

word.smith--
Hi! It's been a while since I last visited you. Your post struck a chord because I just finished working on a group of senior English papers about the psychological implications of William Golding's
Lord of The Flies--at least as the author presented them. Whatever we think of Freud, or even Jung these days, they understood the way humans are wired for regression to "the beast" when the constraints of civilization are removed. Unfortunately, some people, mostly men, need even more constraints, and in that encounter, you provided it.
Lord of The Flies is a depressing and discouraging perspective on human nature, at least in the case of these boys stranded on an island, and the fact that their veneer of civilization had not quite solidified yet, or at least the ones in whom "the beast" was closest to the surface ended up dominating and eventually destroying everything, including the island itself. Can we ever evolve as a species to grow out of our propensity to deal with every conflict in terms of intimidation, confrontation (sometimes merely of a manipulative sort, which can be worse than an outright threat) and violence? Maybe, but not in our lifetimes.

Tiel,
If they fight, we'll have to discipline them or let them go. That might not be such a bad thing if they insist on keeping up this kind of behaviour. ONO, I like being here, but as you know life just doesn't allow me to spend the amount of time here that I'd wish. I suppose this is so for all of us.

Ginnie,
What I didn't and still can't believe is the stupidity on the part of both men. Their feud has now been ongoing for nigh on 2 months.

Lack of education usually also means lack of ability to articulate. When one can't articulate, what's left but the physical expression. Those two guys, though, obviously are enjoying their run-ins. If they won't break anytning of value or can't hurt you or the property around you, let 'em go at it. Let 'em get their jollys from a punch in the mouth! YOu must be tired of having to be the "sheriff." Regarding a previous post. I can't come to Blogit everyday either. I would certainly like to be able to, but I just can't always.

You're absolutely right, Word.
Unfortunately, violence -- raw, naked force -- has resolved more issues in history than anything else. We're sort of hard wired to it, but it doesn't make it the best method by any stretch.

You're right...
..there is so much more that can be accomplished with the mind. How awful for you to have had to deal with a potentially dangerous situation.
