Well, there goes Freud's theory of Pschoanalysus.  Remembering a most unhappy and frightening event from your childhood is supposed to FREE you of your fear.  But yes, it's really your father you're  afraid of transferred to the tree.  It's very sad that he still has the power to rob you of the pleasure of Christmas trees.  Now that you have been reminded, will you talk to your father about it?  I say "talk", rather than "confront", because confronting might cause even deeper pain.  Maybe "talk" will at least clear your heart some on your reaction to Christmas trees.

Your feelings are very understandable.

It's strange the associations we make with certain things, the triggers our minds use, isn't it? You know it has more to do with your dad than a tree, but that doesn't change the reaction. It's fascinating in a way, quite mysterious.
