KInd of backwards
You actually have it kind of backwards. One cannot be self-less. God did not wire us to be self-less. It is a self-defense mechanism. If you don't feed yourself first, how are you going to feed anyone else. God wants your faith, not your works. That is an American problem there. Or perhaps I should say a religious problem. "Men of America, I perceive that you are religious in many ways." I perceive that you are religious, but you are not relational. God doesn't always want you to feed the poor. The poor aren't poor because they understand how not to be. If you give them handouts, it usually ends up making them even more so. God wants a relationship. That comes through faith. Faith in Jesus. I don't like it much myself, but I have found it to be true. The truth will set you free from trying to please God by works. God loves to give you good things. The blessings of God though, is the joy of knowing Jesus. From that all things flow. I don't like it all the time either, but I have found it to be true.
