@ fionajean
one day they'll be in you same position.....and they'll think back to their own inconsideration.

@ word.smith
I say, either do it all year round or none at all - I don't like the subliminal advertising.

@ Malcolm
I don't know about the UK but in the US we then get the after shock on television consisting of after Christmas sale adverts. Though I wouldn't mind seeing the one Martin Kemp does in the UK for a soafa company...

@ tiel
Those who can't be swayed during the year to contribute won't be swayed at Christmas, either, no matter how you try. Bah Humbug!

I don't know about that
Has goodwill really started? I got caught in a downpour today - no umbrella and was trying to cross the road. The motorists didn't stop to let me through (Even thought they were nice and dry in their cars) and when I got halfway through one intersection, one guy actually hooted at me and started edging his car forward. The roads were flash flooding (water was just above my ankles) and Mr Sensitivity is trying to nudge me out of the way!

I'm with you
on this one.

Well said,
I guess the charities also buy into the thought that people do not give other than at  Christmas time which is why their ads also disappear.

You're so right about the ads
I've just posted about Christmas lights illuminating 'success'. Once the 26th arrives we'll all be targetted by furniture retailers and holiday companies.

New Yorker
Yes, you're right. That is exactly what happens at Christmas. And for me, by the time the day actually arrives, I'm pleased to know that the day AFTER, all that annoying bombardment will cease. ON the OTHER HAND, do you think maybe there are people who WOULDN'T THINK to give to charity (except to have Good Will come clean out their garage of discards) if they WEREN'T having their consciences tweeked mercilessly? What do ya' think?

It should be a year round thing
not just a "clean my conscience" thing at Christmas. And if only we knew where the money went, anyway. That's why I volunteer, I know the job will get done.

I also feel this way about the commercials and the charities that are asking for money. I give to cahrity when IIcan but mainly to St. Judes Hospital for children. Charities could take the money they spend on postage and advertising and put it to use where it is needed. Good Post!
