I see now that they are delaying the trial.......
This is ridiculous, Saddam is setting the ground rules....they should drag his sorry behind into the courtroom kicking and screaming........then his image would be dropped a notch or two.....

I watched some of today's actions of Saddam in the court room, complaining about his 3 day old underwear, his two day old pressed shirt, I thought I wonder what the Iraqi's think of that? My conclussion was answered when I received an email from soldier this morning. He told me the one's he talked to that have TV, told him they can hang him in new or used underwear!!!

We'll just have to disagree...serving ones country honorably doesn't give anyone a lifetime license to undercut our war effort. He's being used by those around him. His statement only lengthen the amount of time we will probably be there......
But hey, you feel differently and I respect your stating your feelings...I just can't agree.

Corbin,
By sayiing that he is attempting to stab a soldier in the back? I think that's pretty far from the truth. He is a decorated Marine and a member of the Dept of Defense Armed Forces Committee, how unpatriotic and cowardly can he be? I think that what the two-month-old rookie Senate freshman Jeanne Schmidt did iin accusing him (by proxy, using someone else's words as a shield) was cowardly.
He is not out of touch with the reality of battle, he sees all the Armed Services Committee reports, he cares deeply for the welfare and wellbeing of the troops, and he is an intelligent, honorable man, one who just happens not to agree with you. Can you respect that? I mean the man is neither a fool, a traitor or a coward.

Why would I hate you? You're just as entitled to your views as anyone here. I don't expect everybody to get along on everything...that would be pretty boring, don't you think. I sometimes allow someone to draw me into a wild and woolly confrontation...not because of what they say.......but how they choose to say it and the methods used to counter the other point of view. I can't stand calling people demeaning names or using vulgar terms to put them down. After reading several other posts in other categories, I have concluded that you don't prevent it by responding in kind...but by responding kindly. (Or as close as I could get to being kind
) Besides one can always delete bad behavior and or use the dreaded block....(right OFFBEATS?)
People here see what's going on.....they're certainly intelligent enough to understand the reasoning behind it.......

spare us.
I've never heard a single person say that they believe Saddam Hussein is, in any way, a "good guy". While I have no problem with him being put to death or worse, I don't agree with America being in Iraq. There are plenty of brutal dictators out there--what makes him so different? What is it any business of Bush's to invade every country that has oil in it, while lying about it the entire time?
I'm American by citizenship and birth, but I've lived in Saudi Arabia for 18 years. I hate when people spew out crap on topics they don't know anything about. If you're really so sure life in Iraq was worse before the war, why don't you go there yourself and bring us back the proof? Of course you won't. It's more comfortable to sit in your air-conditioned house, typing on your computer (because you have electricity), writing your so-called opinions. I'm liberal, but I don't hate America, I just hate the government and people like you. I feel bad I clicked on your blog, as you'll be getting some of my money, but I've learned and I won't be doing it again anytime soon.

Dang, the guy was living in the right place finally, the only end he deserved wasn't delivered to him when it could have been.
Well, uh, no, I suppose I won't ever get to be President or Prime Minister, but I tell ya, the war with terrorists would now be over, and Arabasaki would be a dust bowl.

if Bush hadn't invaded
there wouldn't be opposition statements.
it doesn't take domestic opposition to Bush to encourage opposition from Al Qaida and such -- all it takes is for the U.S. to continue the policies that produced the international opposition in the first place -- and for Bush to continue this war.

I find it amazing that when you write the truth, some people can't handle it. This is a good post, well written, and I see our old buddy there is once again trying to make himself a name in politics. If he had a political back ground, or even if he was a US citizen one could almost give some crediable value to his comments. This is not the case. Funny how those on the outside always think their in. Well my friend, just look at the comment section and you can see who really knows what is going on.
Someone asked why isn't the trial of Saddam being held at the Hage..First this is not like Germany, it has nothing to do with the German's. This is an Iraqi trial with an Iraqi judge, being held in Iraq, and will have an Iraqi resolution. We are not dumb, we know they still publicly hang people there. If ever there was a good reason to have one, he is that. Look to the families and the people of Iraq, many thousands dead now, and you know justice must be served! To those who say it is once again the fault of George Bush or the American gov't...let them move there, if they believe the cause to be so just! Personally I give the Iraqi people respect for testifying against that monster, too bad he can only die once as thousands of them want him dead. At the end of the day, it will not matter what I think or anyone else, it will be the Iraqis who have had the last word.
I hope you keep writing the facts Corbin because you do it for the right reason, the other little bud does it not for engaging in intelligent debate, rather to sensationalize his back ground.. From you he can have something to write about, have you ever seen anything he has written of value? He honestly believes he draws us into an emotional state, but alas he fails to understand our passion for doing the right thing is subtotal of many years of loving our country. He simply does not have that type of power.......
Lastly we must remember Saddam is not the victim here...he is a cold blooded murderer!

And likewise I thank you too Corbin Dallas........
And this poem touched me well,
If truth be told,
to the very core of softness hidden by my shell,
But then you knew that I've always been bold
when it comes to truths spread,
My pearls, I will not hide in a shed!
Hey there fellow slinger of words, I really got a chuckle out of that little ditty.
A couple of insights from a liberated mind might help you understand its real meaning a little better.
The pearl finds the grain of sand an irritant all of its life. Only when the pearl finally dies, still being irritated by the grain of sand, does someone else get the beauty caused by a few carbon atoms. We are a carbon based life form, are sating my words are equivalent to being a living irritant in your flesh. Thanks Corbin.
To me the moral of this poem is that only when one steps away from the constant friction of irritation, that a pearl of wisdom can be appreciated and often only by someone else.
One other thing that is equally good for both of us, I'm suggesting a rule of engagement between us now.
I promise never to erase or block your comments. I hope you'll give me the same respect. That way I don't have to clutter up my columns with comments that I only wish you and your readers to see.

When you start a post off with a lie how can I expect truth to survive....
in the body of text. Saddam is using no one It is Ramsay Clark who is using Saddam. You promote lynching as what good conservatives should demand by saying, before a fair trial is conducted, not that there can be any fair trial in this case, that Saddam has lived too long. You also promote "Free speech" as long as you can censor the content.
In the end, after all is said and done, you base all this censorship on loyalty to the present administration. This means Corbin Dallas, that my argument still stands, on the validity of its argument alone.
That the same argument was held by those who were executed after the Nuremburg trials. They too, claimed that they were only loyal soldiers following orders. Their family members to this day say that they were doing god's works and being loyal Germans. The only reason that their relatives were hung for exterminating six million jews as god had told them to do was because they lost the war, not because they were wrong.
Ramsay Clark is the one using Saddam Hussein and standing up for the principal that your country's legal system was founded on, the premise that one is innoocent until proven guitly.
You keep saying Corbin that you are such a super patriot, but trample every jewel of democracy that your once wonderful country gave the world.
No Corbin, it is clearly evident that you and your right-wing friends, are not patriots, but wish to diguise yourselves in that honoured robe to hide your true identy.
Your are true war mongers, murderes of families, no better than Hitler's gang in foundation, but as a German born lefty, in my opinion, much less talented.
This can be clearly percieved by looking at your success as compared to the racked up score of the Nazis. You've got a long way to go, Corbin, before you can rival the death and destruction wrought on the world by my talented ancestors.
Zieg Heil Herr Corbin Dallas...... Zieg Heil........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't there a difference with Milosevic in that the areas he was striking was basically autonomous states. And the Serbian government wasn't ready to go after him.
Whereas , Iraq's new government was more than willing to try him for his crimes against his own people. He's not being charged with anything he did in the war with Iran. So he's not being charged because of his international atrocities
Whereas, Milosevic attacked and annexed neighboring states.

Corbin--
I think the Saddam trial in Iraq is a circus, and probably not even legal. If Milosevic and other criminal leaders were sent to the World Court for their trials, why not Saddam? Is it because the U.S. is running the show and the U.S. does not want to accept the World Court's authority over Americans?

Once again-fantastic! It's writing like yours that will keep me a conservative. While I don't agree with everything the President has done (that would be a post all on its own), my core beliefs are: 1. I support the war, but would like us to kill those who would kill us and then be done with us. I shudder to think what the consequences of a Murtha-like retreat ("strategic redeployment", my eye) would be. 2. All the Dems (including "Slick Willy") bemoaned how dangerous Saddam was. I know-I was on a carrier in the Persian Gulf. 3. No WMDs? I remain unconvinced. It's not like they didn't have sufficient warning to hide the things. Sheesh-common sense. 4. Aiding and abetting the enemy. Oh, you betcha. What are the Dems thinking!? Just IMAGINE this during WWII. 5. The world would be a much better place if the soldier that found Saddam put a bullet in his brain ("Gee, sir, he had a pistol and I was worried he'd shoot me!"). But, I won't be surprised if Saddam walks.
