I think it's the true measure of a neighborhood if they have a decent hardware store (and I'm not talking foofy psuedo-hardware for people with too much money to blow on door handles).

Yes, this is very, very sad indeed.  This post reminds me of something that happened several years ago to a very old, promenant Catholic church here in the town where I live.

Apparently, parishoners gave up the idea of renovating the church or even taking over the upkeep of the place, so it was turned into a public theatre house...I was extremely angry and sad....
