MayB,
I think it's true, and true because experienced writers know where the ideas are found...no need to ask :)

I find most of my inspiration...
in hip hop...my thoughts are a combination of intimate thoughts mixed up with a hip hop head mentality

You are very accurate in that the more you share, the more you have.

I'm not sure,
I have asked for people's opinions on what they want to hear about - Normally I give a selection and let them choose - Is that the same as what you're meaning here? Perhaps it's 'cos i'm just starting out.

Heinlein used to tell people who wanted to share an idea

that they ought to go exercise their First Amendment right and gom write their own.

I recall Stephen King retelling the tale of a famous sci-fi/horror author who once, when asked where he got his ideas, said "I have the heart of a teenager . I keep it in a jar under my desk". Maybe Theodore Sturgeon?

Ideas are inspirations.  In my case, whatever I'm focused on for a time determines what my inspirations cover.  When I'm into interior decorating---ideas and inspirations flow.  When building a garden, the same.  etc.  With me it's focus which opens the door to the unconscious where the connections and ideas percolate until they make themselves known in my conscious.   But I always worry a little just the same that one day no ideas will come.

The problem is the constant stream of ideas.  It would take 2 lifetimes to carry them all out - or perhaps the reorganisation of this one...mmm!  Actually, MayB, you just gave me a brilliant idea.

actually, my decision to start writing down my ideas

was the beginning of my writing.  it was about a year and 4 months ago.  the first idea that i ever wrote down was "they should put pouch pockets on other types of shirts besides hooded sweatshirts.  they're really the best type of pocket"

it went from there.

So right MayB!
I constantly have ideas..so many that it's hard to organize them! Sometimes so overwhelming that I think I'm a bit nuts! ;) It's funny cuz I've asked people I know, who write well, why they don't write articles or stories. Their reason is usually that they wouldn't know what to write about!

I have notebooks full of ideas,
and only recently have I started to do something with them.  It will be interesting to see what comes out of this new drive of mine.

I also think that a lot of people have great ideas, but only those with
motivation, drive and persistence take those ideas someplace, and actually write.

I agree too
at work we had a psychometric survey a while ago and I scored highly on the ideas and very badly on the 'finishing.' Like you I have no end of ideas but so few make it through to anything further. What a waste.
