Good points Rhia.
I find myself casting my mind back to see if what I wrote before goes with what I'm writing presently. Otherwise, they don't fit that well together. If I sit down down and think about it a little bit and the characters don't tell me anything I put them aside and get on with other stuff. Lately, I've practised writing a chapter at a time so it's almost like I have a complete story each time I write.

Rhia--1, that's what gets me...
is how the story must discover itself. And then all of the actions must make sense to the reader. I am realizing more and more, that at every step, I need to ask: is my reader following me? sadly, I don't seem to always know

I never know where the story ends. My characters tell me, as if we were sitting down over coffee. This is especially true of mysteries where suddenly, just like I was reading someone else's work, I go 'Ah hah,' so she did it!' I do go back, and make sure everything fits. Otherwise, it reads too much like a true story. And you know what Mark Twain said--"Of course truth is stranger that fiction; fiction has to make sense."

Definitely....
If I start writing without that outline, I don't know where I might end up.

Thanks, Bright.
I am enjoying the journey, even if I do shed a tear or two now and then as I write.
