Welcome, Sean and fireyloins!
Boy, did this get the class buzzing!
Glenn, your thoughts are always welcome. Just mind your manners. Gore cost himself the (not "his") presidency. And, yes, we do agree once in a while. Strange, no?
Xenox, you need to take a real hard look at the Democrats in Congress before you start accusing anyone of wanting perks only for themselves. And our society isn't about favoring anybody over anyone else. We're all supposed to be regarded as equal before the law. Your comments read as if you advocate the reverse of what you claim is being done. Neither extreme is right. You are right about the decline in manufacturing jobs, but have you factored in the exorbitant cost that American heavy industry is forced to absorb in sky-high wages and benefits? That's a big reason why we're losing jobs in those sectors.
FW - see the President's speech today. Here's a link to it: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/11/20051130-2.html

WriterofLight,
Please excuse the intrusion, that I may comment on a Corbin Dallas Post! Joe Lieberman used the "real" fact that there are "cell phones, sattelite dishes, and cars" on Iraqi streets as a positive sign??? What did they use before, tin cans and oxen! Please, we all know Lieberman is in bed with the Jewish Lobby and a staunch supporter of Israel's right to confiscate Arab Lands for profit!
Hey Corbin! Leiberman thinks everybody should kiss Israel's ass!! And he cost (dare I say it?) Al Gore his Presidency!
Again WriterofLight, my apology!

Corbin Dallas,
I hope included in that job total is your position as, 1st suck-up? You should be locked-up for the tripe you write here! I wonder how much longer before you go the way of Two Dog and MightyHolyWarrior? You are losing your and Bush's war against sane discourse (did you listen to his insane rant today?)! The rule of law will prevail!

you sound like a demogogue. The fact is people should be free to do with their money as they wish. Including corporations.

actually the question should be
why should the rich be favored?
do yo urealize it appears that you conservatives seem to believe in a caste system -- class system, where the elite rich basically rule everyone else and get benefits that are not allowed to others.
my other question is
are we heading toward another fiasco like the French Revolution.
you bring more middle class into the lower economic echelons like it seems the conservatives want (see my 19TH CENTURY REPUBLICANS IN THE 21ST CENTURY) and that's what we will have.

if conservatives were honest (Pat Buchanan, Rush Limbaugh are examples of dishonesty that come to mind right off the bat)
if they favored the health of the American society over the short-sided interests of greedy corporations
if they favored the interests of the Middle Class over the rich
and the poor over the rich
if they showed that they didn't want the rich to h ave an grossly unequal advantage over everyone else.
then I wouldn't have anything bad to say abou them
but the way it is . . .
but you didn't answer me either

on the adding of jobs
did you notice that GM is laying more thousands
other automakers.
jobs with good wages and benefits are disappeariong
burger king and mcdonald's, however, are going great guns
maybe if you compared the average wage of the jobs lost to that of the jobs added, you just might have a more accurate picture.
did you know that fry cooks are now categorized as "industrial"? "manufacturing"?
that's the way
and did you notice the only good Republican
he's dead.

Have you checked the economy lately?????
Even with the storms that have devastated the south.....
From Forbes:
Now that we are nearly a year into the President's second term, just how strong is our economy? The answer is in the numbers. The GDP grew 3.8% in the third quarter. This is the tenth consecutive quarterly increase of above 3%. As noted by Washington Times columnist Gary Andres on Nov. 3, it is the longest streak of consistent growth since World War II. Reuters on the same day also noted that business productivity surged in the third quarter and said that other indexes are equally good. On Nov. 4 the government's new employment figures showed that 56,000 new jobs had been created in October. That means more than 4.2 million new jobs have been created since May 2003. The current unemployment average of 5% is lower than averages in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, and inflation has remained tame.
All this is positive economic news, yet most of what we read or hear today are the stories that manage to emphasize whatever bad news the press can find. If, however, the test, as we used to be told, is "it's the economy, stupid," then President Bush's second term is a clear success.

What, exactly, is the plan for winning in Iraq????
America can do better. Stocking the government with political cronies is just another reason why Bush will be remembered as the WORST president ever. What has he accomplished othetr than breaking Iraq???

regarding how to word things
the conservatives learned that long ago -- Goldwater didn't win because he was pretty honest.
Nijxon and REagan won because they were devious.
using rhetoric with a slant -- painting pictures that weren't accurate and the country fell for it.
Democrats looked silly then, trying to pander to the crowd that the conservatives had won over by their misrepresentations.
I have to admit they still look silly because they lost the vision in order to attempt to win the support of a public that was so easily persuaded by the conservative illusion.
strong principles is what we need, not the heritage of "Tricky Dick", the father of modern day Republicanism.

even Millard Fillmore was better than Bush
cause he did basically nothing.
didn't do any harm
Bush is harming this country.
so now the "far left" has shifted to the middle and maybe even to the right of center huh?
you keep demonizing anything that is not rooted in 19th Century failed policy.
that's what you do, though, call names and demonize, but you certainly do not engage in meaningful discussion.

Yes we can do better and I agree with you on the left wing whackos
IMO there are both good and bad in both parties but the far left libs scare me, they have no plans and live in a fantasy world.

This isn't a new slogan.....Kerry used it just before the election and of course we know how it flew then......
Dateline NBC
Updated: 7:54 p.m. ET Oct. 31, 2004
Kerry: "You know, that's bravado. Here's what I'll say about Tuesday. I hope America comes out and votes in record numbers, because this is the most important election of our lifetime. And I believe America can do better. We can go to work. We can be stronger at home. We can regain our respect in the world. And I hope Americans will give me the chance to make them proud."
In the same interview he also said:
Senator John Kerry: "As Americans we are absolutely united, all of us. There are no Democrats and no Republicans, as Americans we are united in our determination to destroy, capture, kill Osama bin Laden and all of the terrorists."
And this:
Kerry: "I don't think we need more American troops. And yes, I am committed to elections. Yes, I am committed to success. No one has talked about cutting and running."
The statements of the left certainly are a changin...........

Dean said a plan was forthcoming but gave no details to a plan
They have that guy from California, Lackoff, to tell the liberals how to 'word' things so that people will fall for their ideas. But if the ideas were any good why would they need to be worded in any way than what the words themselves do to define the liberal's positions? It's because people don't want the liberal position. It's why 'abortion' is called 'choice.' If libs told the American public what they stood for in plain language, like they accuse Bush of doing, they would never receive a vote. Well a few, but then that doesn't win elections, does it? Good post, btw.
Cheers!
