No matter how long one lives or how varied one's experience, each injustice disappoints anew.

Welcome to the real world, Malcolm. ..with all its wonder, with all its
strangeness...and all its unfairness.

Many thanks for commenting. I agree about the parents. I also feel for other pupils who must just be demoralised after working so hard to try and get noticed; the worst would be if they felt there was really no point because they weren't ever going to get the parts anyway.

Thanks Anthony
I've witnessed similar things too.

Thanks for your comment. I do find it sad if the allegations are true. The person concerned though seems to revel in all the attention - I wonder when they will truly understand that it hasn't come through their own efforts. Will they then resent their parents?

It's no longer a case of what you know
but who you know. This happens inevery industry - I even got blue contact lenses so I could have "blue eyes" (It didn't work.) It is unfair though - those that get top jobs tend to be those that can BS the best. It's a pity it's coming at this level now.

Sad when folks just can't allow kids to make it on their own. I stopped going to my kids events like hockey and football, because of some parents attending the games acted like hooligans in their attempts to make their child succeed.

Malcolm,
I really have to type slower or edit more: that first line should read: "I feel for any child"

Malcolm,
I feel the child of any parents who would go to such lengths to live vicariously and put such pressure on their child to excel at something the child may or may not even want,  and then put conditional strings on it.  The "stage mother or father" is not a pretty image.
