Sorry. But considering plagiarism and identity theft nowadays,
I feel like copyrighting myself!
I sort of get going....and going and going and going....

Majroj, it's not a "story" it's
my life. There's no copyright issue problems here. I lived it, I wrote it, end of story. That's how copyright works, unless the "maker" (that's me) elects to sell some rights. Which I would certainly do for some decent money. I negotiate "rights" deals all the time for our documentary films, broadcast rights, educational distribution rights, stock footage rights...etc..

Given an eighth grade print shop class, anyone can print a book.
(Except they barely teach print shop any more).
It is the editor's polish and comments that file down the rough corners and make product palatable to publishers.
Publishers have publicity and distribution. They also have tremendous influx of material.
Go make friends with the secretary of talent screener or whatever they call the guardians of their gates.
Or, tie every aspect of the property up with copyrights, (and patents if for the story you dream up devices which could work), get it out however you can, then sell access to the rights to people who want to take the plunge with your ideas.

I guess I didn't take that into consideration. I was thinking in terms of fiction.

Majroj, my ego tells me what you are saying is true, but I think
the whole publishing world and distribution system is changing, being driven by the options that technology is giving us, the democratization of the industry. A similar thing is happening in the independent documentary film world, where I spend most of my time. My young tech guy who runs all our digital systems, is constantly pushing me in the direction of these changes.

babe_rocks, but what about
all those recent stories about bloggers who became so popular, that publishers offered them a book deal to turn their blog into a book?

Factorfiction, I feel the same
way about print vs web reading. I prefer to hold the book, magazine whatever, in my hand.

No.
But historically people who edit themselves have poorer product.
Get an editor, or at least advice from one.
And if you plan to make money, never pay for your book's production (i.e., "vanity presses").

Don't publish it online if you want to submit it to a "real" publisher. It's already in the public domain. In fact it might be already but you can always revise it and change it around. I make books on my computer and that way I published three volumes of my mother's memoirs. I also made a hardcover book from scratch.

You will have to publish the book...
I just read this post and now I want to read from the beginning, but I don't have the ability to do it (kids, hmmph
) I really want to know more about this situation, but print is so much easier for lots of writing...
I am sure I will try to read some at a time though...

Majroj - would you
buy the book? I think I've told you, this is a memoir, designed to be read as a book from the first post forward. I'm thinking of trying one of those self-publishing web sites. Know anything about how that works?
