Offbeats,
It's not as bad as it sounds. I keep forgetting to do the conversion rate, which is $US1.00 versus $64.00 of our dollars. So there's another Christmas/light addict around here huh? I'm in good company!

Silver, I laughed at your comment...
The things we do to ourselves. Eat ourselves silly and spend so much we're depressed come new year's.

Glad to hear your son is now on the mend--and that insurance covers most of it. Thanksgiving isn't so bad. It's a nice excuse to see the family before the holidays, with little more on the agenda than to eat ourselves into a tryptophan-induced coma! It also starts the holiday season off with a bang, serving as the starting line--The day after Thanksgiving is when it's officially "legal" (socially) to get ready for Christmas. And boy oh boy, it's a fast and furious ride between those two holidays!

When I have to visit the doctor, I always tell them that I'm personaaly paying. I have no insurance. They knock the price way down. It seems that with insurance they have to do a lot of paperwork. I pay cash and the price drops further! I haven't started Christmas yet but I do have a Thanksgiving turkey in the frig. I;m now in journel if you can't find me...TF

Bright,
Thanks for stopping in. I too leave my tree and lights up until January 6th as well.

More than anything else, I enjoy the spirit of the season. Even if I have no money, it's so good to how people relax and are warm and more giving during this particular time of year.

Libertine,
If you're a spendthrift like me....you know what can happen in that short period of one month.

Thank you for the nice greeting. Its good to think of you enjoying Christmas already!
I do enjoy Thanksgiing and Christmas but they are so close together and can get exhausting. Unlike many people, I have always left my Christmas tree and decorations up until Jan. 6th ( little Christmas) and I enjoy the tree and lights for a while after all the rush is over.

Thanks Ginnie!
We are so Americanized here that people now celebrate Halloween. We don't do thankgiving - yet
but I know people who fly up to America to take part in those festivities with family they have there. I hope your trip has been great so far.

Argus, we have those government clinics here too...
and it's the same, you have to be prepared to sit and wait all day because so many others don't the money to pay private doctors and when you see the doctor, you are in and out the door in a flash.

No thanksgiving for me either word!
We haven't got into it while living here although we have celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving, in October, but it's a much quieter holiday than what the Americans have here. It's nice that they bring in the season beginning with their Thanksgiving but I couldn't at first figure out why they were wishing everyone Happy Holidays so early! Haha! Enjoy decorating!

Costa Ricans have semi-socialized medicine which serves as a hlth safety net; includes medicines in their generic form. Of course, it means long waits and short attention from the medics, still it helps a lot of people.

Tapsel, I'm glad to hear that
your son outgrew his eczema. That gives me hope. It doesn't bother him really except for the allergies that make him sneeze and cause his eyes to water, plus his nose is always stuffy. I'm gonna have to tie him down for the eyedrops though, boy does he hate those.

Just slipped my mind.

word.smith, I'm glad you mentioned the rate of exchange here. I was freaking out on the Elidel and eyedrops costs. My grandson, Peter, was bothered by eczema when he was the age of your son and also had to have those meds. Thankfully, he seems to have outgrown it. As a teen, he just has to fight zits.

Quirky,
I love Christmas and usually start celebrating from a month out. I always forget to mention the rate of exchange - It's $J64.00:$US1.00
