Thanks MayB
I do miss writing, but sometimes life gets in the way. But then it gives you something to write about.

My parents only spoke English at home ...
and Spanish when they didn't want us to understand. It took me 45 years not to be embarrassed to speak spanish, because they associated a latin accent with one of ignorance, and all of us kids speak flawless Texas English. As I gian fluency, I see advantages and disadvantges to the two languages. Spanish is ideal for seduction!

Thanks Katray, you are
one of the reasons that keeps me coming back to renew the contact. That's what's great about Blogit, it's like a home away from home.

Wonderful post.
I speak English to my son, and my husband speaks German.  English has always been the family language, but recently, my husband wants me to speak German to him, but maintain English with our son, under the assumption that our son will develop better German (we live in Germany).  I've been resisting.  But, our son is equally fluent in both languages, with some idiosyncratic syntax, and communicates exceptionally well with my parents.  It's really a personal choice how bilingual families cope, but I would never have it any other way.  Dad-German, Mom-English.  It's my opinion that each language is vitally important to a child's cultural and familial development, and to his or her ultimate sense of self.
