Noone ever says on their deathbed
"I wish I had held more grudges"

Isa, I think
That practicing forgiveness is what makes it easier. How many times? Until it is second nature. You'll never reach a shore of invulnerability, where you will never be hurt. But, you can learn what is true and how to take the sting out of what appears to harm. This is a major life lesson for me.

avant garde...
this is so much difficult to me...i don't manage to forgive easily and even when i think i have managed to forgive seeing my enemies makes me realize that i haven't forgiven in depth...betrayal, for instance, still hurts...

Joe Love
How do you erase a memory, especially one charged with emotion?

posted by avant-garde on November 21, 2005 at 2:40 AM | link to this | reply

"His heart was as great as the world, but there was no room in it to hold the memory of a wrong." Emerson

But I do have to forgive and then move on in some cases, because forgiveness I have found, doesn't always heal the wound  left by a mean-spirited person.

So I try to forgive and then leave God behind as their friend in my place.

I agree with some of your other readers
Forgiving DOES come rather easily, but it is hard to forget.

You can never forget, but you can change your mind about the memory.

Avant, you are really making us do some thinking....
It seems that as I have grown spiritually I find it is easier for me to forgive and forget.  When negative people or negative situations enter my life I view it as an opportunity to learn a lesson, gain an understanding  and grow from the choices I make.  Thanks again. Blessings!
