fieryloins - yes that is basically it - this coming after an attempt at
converting me and an abrupt rebuttal on my part. After being told to get lost, the individual formulated a plan to exact some type of revenge. It involved contacting me under an alias while feigning an interest in an item I was selling online. Once the sales dialogue reached a certain point I sent along one of my references via email. This individual then promptly contacted my reference and told them they were doing business with one of Satan's underlings. In a future blog and once I am certain this has been put to rest I will chronicle exactly how I handled the situation.

For Gomedome
Yes, you will find the Lord our God in all sorts of places! Funny, there are many times that I have seen the face of God while on the toilet! Maybe that's not the same thing though...Hmmmm

Hello.
someone claiming to be a christian has attempted to smear your reputation? Very unfortunate. Some christians are apparently very misguided. I hope the matter is resolved smoothly.

Xeno-x -- I wouldn't want to give the impression that email contact from
Blogit members is a big problem. In the 2 years I have been here there have been very few intrusions and nothing serious. This was an ex-blogger whom I told to get lost in an abrupt manner due to his religious solicitation. He definately plotted a revenge of sorts after being treated so abruptly.

Darkride -- I was in the USA yesterday on a day trip
I didn't meet one bible thumper the whole time I was there but ran into something that cracked me up. A stack of "Thumper" pamphlets were left in the washroom of the Denny's where we had lunch. How serious can you take any message that is distributed in a public washroom? ....it cracked me up.

posted by gomedome on November 21, 2005 at 12:23 PM | link to this | reply

No one contacted me yet...but
I receive thumper mail all the time by mail (I affectionately refer to it as Bible Thumper mail as Thumper mail). I recently got a postcard that stated Jesus would pay ALL my bills and lay waste to any debt if only I put my faith in Him nd lay my troubles at his feet. Well I have been doing just that for the last year and you know what? That Bastard hasn't paid 1 bill! Now what am I supposed to do? All my extra money has gone to weekly tithe and Oral Roberts! Man, this sucks!

back to the serious subject
it seems many of our better bloggers have been driven off of Blogit by the emails of others who disagree with them -- vicious items as far as i can ascertain

i've been "stalking" him for 31 years now, ever since he was born.

mikebrown - there are a few subliminal messages here if one looks
......losers cannot be allowed to mess with someone who has something to lose.........anyone who approaches me concerning consultation must have a totally unclouded view that I am the man for the job. Some confused kid from Podunk Iowa cannot have an influence on this perception. The other message is that there are easy safeguards to protect onself with, while on line. My defences kicked in admirably. When I had a real crazy to deal with (second major one from this category)....he was dealt with.

i can't believe someone would do that

LOL at Darkride!
I don't comment here much, Gomedome, but I do read a good bit. And I, like probably half the reading world, don't necessarily agree with everything you say, but you say it so well and deliver it so logically it's always a real pleasure to read, mull, and digest.

So certainly count me as part of the mob ready to rally round the flags of freedom of religion and expression, and say, "Good for you for scraping this piece of histrionic crap off your shoe."

That sort of thing absolutely cannot be tolerated by any of us, and thankfully, it sounds like you have the ways and means to deal with such.

Sorry you had to deal with such a situation, glad you had the wherewithal to handle it, and above all, keep on posting!

I guess Jesus told him to do it...

Only, it wasn't the famous saviour from days gone buy, it was the leaf blower out in front of his apartment! Damn...maybe next time.

Yes, we have many freedoms in America, including the freedom to be a complete dumb ass! Take it to him (Him)!

renigade3 -- I really didn't have much choice

I received an email, forwarded from one of my longstanding clients who had agreed to be a reference for me. He had received it in his email and had a few questions about me exposing him to wackos. That is where the real problem lies in his concern and the fact it makes me look bad. I had used him as a reference only once so it was no problem determining who had done this. A little internet sleuthing and within a day we had confirmed that it was an individual who had emailed me first from the Blogit system.

kooka_lives - there is a bit more to the story (there always is)

But to abbreviate; I told this one blogger (who by the way was on Blogit for only 4 weeks) to stop emailing me with messages from Jesus. I was abrupt and I even remember blogging about it. Since that time this pinhead has been trying to figure out ways to discredit me. We've both seen what lengths some of these fundies will go to in their efforts to try to discredit non believers but this one was overboard.

gomedome--Glad you took care of it. People like that should not be here.
It's one thing to have differing views, it's quite another to "punish" others or try to "convert" them.

Wow
I can not figure out that kind of mind set. You would have to really be out of it to think that you have the right to go after other blogger's real lives. Sure there are some here I would not mind meeting face to face and spend some time with and some that I would never wish to speak with no matter what, but I have yet to find one who I want to try and ruin their lives or do any damage to them.

You keep thinking you've seen the worst of bloggers and then someone goes and takes it down a notch.

Although there is this one Blogger, Xeno something or other, who keeps harassing me. Funny thing is he's been doing it longer than I've been on blogit. In fact he starting harassing me before there was even an internet. He stalks my house, calls me up and seems to want to know everything about my life. You gotta watch out for guys like him.

Lensman - It does make one stop and wonder what people use for brains

sometimes. I had replied to an email this individual had sent me via the Blogit system last summer (4 emails actually, I replied to the last one). All were an effort intent on making me see that Jesus is the only way. My reply basically told this individual to get lost. It was scathing enough to inspire this individual to plot revenge. How un-Jesuslike?

Gomedome
Well, I'm with you 100 percent on this.  I view Blogit as a forum of sorts.  In some ways, depending on the category (mostly politics and religion) it can be equated to a boxing ring.  The contenders get in there and go for the knockout punch.  After the bell rings for the last time, it's over.  Everyone goes home.  Blogit's hostilities should no more follow the contenders home than should the haymakers in the ring.  Crush away, I say.

JanesOpinion -- I don't much complain when people demonstrate some of the
things they are capable of but I felt this time the individual crossed the line of decency. In this forum we have only words to defend ourselves, unfortunately for the individual in question, when you step into the real world that is no longer the case.

renigade3 - I did nail them against the wall

It was a situation that called for it.

Ariala - you must get it a lot being so much more noticeable
I've really only had a few minor problems. A few email intrusions from God fan club members, one obsessed individual and now this person who was a obscure blogger who only posted a handful of blogs.

posted by gomedome on November 19, 2005 at 6:09 PM | link to this | reply

[An email filled with a slanderous characterization and then sent to one of my real life clients is not only completely unacceptable it is legally actionable.]

Somebody did this to you????  Crickey but that sucks.  Yeah, I agree.  Nail their sorry ____ to the wall.  That is unconsciounable (sp?) and completely inappropriate. And yes, I'd agree that you have every legal right to sue and recover your good name.

Gome, yes, I have run into some major problems with a few before...I still
can't believe it happens, but it does.  I've written about it in the past, which I'm sure you've read those posts about stalkers, etc.

Xeno-x -- to me this just demonstrates one more time what people are

capable of in the name of their various religions.

Ariala -- I'm sure you have run into this type of thing before
When one thinks about it, finding someone is not very difficult, especially when in my case I post about some of my business related activities in my other blog. Following the links and pretending to be interested in a purchase is an easy way to open the doors to more personal contact information.

jollyjeff -- I don't mean to paint a grim picture about blogging in general
But one must consider that this is a public forum and one cannot disregard the sometimes inflammatory subject matter of this particular blog. In the 23 months that I have been a Blogit member, I've actually only had 2 people whose behaviour were completely out of line. One was dealt with right here on Blogit, the other I had to take harsher measures against because of the effort they had put in to attack me offline.

SirBryantheLion - this case was a little surprising
An individual with a twisted thought process had enough lucidity to track me down and glean the information they wanted. Unfortunately for them they were not able to cover their tracks after attempting to hurt my business activities. I have dealt with it holding complete and utter disregard for the other person involved other than the consideration that they are young. Presumably this person has little in the way of assets to put at risk while they play a dangerous game.

posted by gomedome on November 19, 2005 at 12:45 PM | link to this | reply

Exactly!  Some bloggers think it's all fun and games to slander someone's character until they get fucked up legally or otherwise.  I speak from experience but not from this site, myspace actually.
