MayB
I enjoyed this story A LOT. Isn't funny how the more exclusive restaurants and more elaborate hotels offer THE WORST customer service imaginable! Very entertaining read, May!

...so I decided against doing the gig

CunningLinguist, that's true. Strangely enough I was approached a few months ago to write press material about the wonderful restaurants in the area and I couldn't lie, even if I'd been paid to do so, about the quality of service.

you really want revenge...
ask for water, and not that fuzzy bottled stuff, but tap water with a twist of lemon. Sometimes a good meal can be loused up by insensitive servers. I hope you didn't tip generously -- a couple dimes would have been what she deserved.

Ca88andra, that's probably very wise

I get a bit paranoid about the wines I order at restaurants so I usually give the waitress the full name of it and even point to it on the menu! But you are right, if there is more than one, they should ask you which one you want.

Eeewwww, MayB.  I hate places where "the help" acts that way.

This makes me want to do an experiment...
I want to go into McDonald's and ask for a "burger," and see if they don't ask me to be more specific, or if they just give me the most expensive sandwich on the menu by default.  It's too bad, after all this was over with, you couldn't whip out some card identifying yourself as a restaurant critic -- that would have been sweet!

Aria4, I think that this policy of pushing up the price by stealth is a vote-loser.

This happened all the time the under handness of some places. Customers are given things that they did not order. I think it is a good idea to write about them. I put my travel writing on hold and your experience jolt me into action. I am thinking I should take it up again.
