Avant,
He's your second one, right? It's hard, Avant, being a parent is not easy. Ask for patience and you shall recieve it...he's still new yet, you're most likely still getting settled into new routines and overall a new life...it'll be okay...trust me...been there done that...have faith in yourself because I am SURE that you are a wonderful parent...it's NEVER easy...

It's a huge lesson in patience for me. I get frustrated, but I'm slowly learning not to expect too much from myself. Thanks for asking.

Ya know...

Shortly after I had our first child (six years ago), I noticed that women would literally flock to my husband to "ooh" and "aw" over the baby.  Cute women, too.  And they all went on about what a wonderful daddy he was, etc...  One time I had to clear a pack at the grocery store just to put a bag of oranges in my cart.  After that I made a concerted effort to not let him carry any more newborn children around in public (we had two more).  Well, not really...  But I did harass the crap out of him every time I saw some cute woman going nuts over him and one of our babies.  I swear, babies and dogs get men more chicks...

BTW--That one's a keeper!  Beautiful.  Gotta run, I'm feeling all flushed...

Well, there in for a little adjustment to say the least. But, as parents, they will be pleasantly surprised by the warmth and love only children can give.

Avant-Garde,
Oddly, enough, Pete's wife is name is Cameron.  So, it took a little while to develop the bond and feel comfortable with Sam, huh?  That's good to know, I can see him freaking out a little. They have no kids and then *boom* they're expecting twin boys. Life is definitely not going to be the same.

I told Cameron about this a little while ago. She said, 'You didn't speak to Sam for a long time.' I remember just holding him and thinking to myself, 'What do I do?' LOL but that is part of the learning experience.

Avant-garde,
Thanks for the words of wisdom. Pete is walking around in a state of shock, I think and his wife is due in February or so.  I'll pass it on, if I think the moment is right. Otherwise, being a childless person, I try not to offer advice.

Our first son, Sam came and I was undecided about him. I didn't really want to tend to him. I almost felt threatened, that he was going to take my life away from me. Even when I first started watching him, I wasn't really into it and resented having to do it. It took me a good couple of months for Sam to really grow on me, to the point where I was proud to be with him and watch him.

Even my wife said that she had trouble bonding with him at first, because all he did was stare, cry, and sleep. It took her a month or two to really get things going emotionally.

Tell your friend that this is normal and that just like with a new puppy, there has to be a bonding process. I have a pit bull that I adopted last year. The first day he was home, an 18 wheeler almost ran him over. I didn't even get emotional over it. Now, I would be traumatized.

AvantGarde,

I have a question for you, as a new Dad (again).  The couple who own the coffee shop I hang out at are expecting twins.  Pete is like a lot of guys I've talked to on the subject of children, he's not much into other people's kids.  So, I can tell that he's worried he won't bond with his own kids.  Any thoughts about this.

Thanks for the science info. I don't have the patience to follow the link right now, either (as you did in posting).  But I hope you'll get one posted here one day, too.

My wife heard a voice in her head when she learned she was pregnant. It said, 'This one's going to be a great person.'

Babies are cute

Just bought a magazine about cats - the baby kitties pictured there are gorgeous as well. Baby animals are made to be cute by nature so that they aren't seen as a threat and evoke a nuturing response. That said, al together now, "Aaw."

That was interesting and I think quite true.  Since you are a the father of a new soul you may be interested in my latest posting, "Children of the New Millennium."  Peace and Love and keep up the inspiration.

It is really strange how the Press and leaders of the Democtatic party could stand for lie telling. They are now refusing that Saddam had Weapon of Mass Destruction. They can't even have the courage to accept that, the mass graves uncovered daily in Iraq are proofs of the brutality of Saddam. It is really beyond comprehesion.

With all those evidences that you have read and that others especially Democrats have, I am still surprised why they are still in support of a murderous regime. Thank you very much for reading my text. God Bless.
