Well, your 3-year old BETTER be your top priority! (as I'm sure it is).

QuirkyAlone, I don't think we should assume that it is a stepping back. I am inclined to think that it can be very straining when we are made to feel obligated. I think that we move in and out of orbit. We have phases where we are right into some posts and not others and that can change. It doesn't have a bearing in my case on what I think of the person.
I never want to see the visible click. I think it is a fundamental right for us to read in privacy and not be clocked in for all we read. It seems we disagree on this but it has no impact on how I perceive our friendship

CunningLinguist, I think that friends do take a big picture view
It's like when we have "friends" who get offended because we didn't call in a while but they never called either. I think it is always best if people can pick up where they left off. It we set too many pre-requisites it is inevitable that we will fail to live up to them.

A sin? hahahaha. Nope, never. But...you can hardly expect droves of comments when you're not giving them out to others, for IMHO, reading without leaving any comments is a little bit like stepping back from the friendship, albeit slightly...because those you read silently have no way to know that you did. Does that make sense? This would all be different if Blogit would get rid of the invisible click, but they don't seem inclined to do so.

I agree with Tiel
children grow up so quickly and hey, we'll still be here (in my case like a bad penny)

The little three year old and the hair ribbons is fleeting and never to be seen again. Seems to me, you have your priorites in order.

Is it a sin?

Nope!  I've been reading people for 4 days but didn't comment til' today.  However, I said some "Our Father's and Hail Mary's" for good measure.    Seems so many of us are floating in the same boat lately!

, Thinking of you!

I haven't been commenting much either.  I have just been fantastically busy and have been reading my faves, but not commenting.  my readership has gone down, but the people who read me most are still reading so I'm happy about that.  Sometimes I think that commenting is over rated.  I read a comment on a Haiku poem this morning that said (baiscally) "Nice, but it could have been longer..."  LOL

Short answer: No.

Long answer: No.

This is something I struggle with here

I think your friends understand.  Those who matter don't mind and those who mind don't matter.

Talion, I suppose I am used to the idea of not hearing from many readers. In a way it makes it special when you do. Sometimes it can be years later when we learn of the impact of something we wrote but mostly we never do. We can't know everything and I can't imagine trying to tell everyone I read that I read them.

One can read, but unless there's a comment, it doesn't count. What a strange philosophy some hold.

Renigade3, so now I am supposed to feel guilty about not using smileys? ;-).
Us Mac people don't have emoticoms on our comment bar.

Mayb,
There is so much going on here, you can rejoin the throng when you catch your breath.  Don't worry. Be happy.  Best of luck with your decision: to every life there is a season, the quiet path or the rushing river, follow your heart.

MayB, Blogging loses its fun when one feels compelled to read and comment out of guilt or necessity.
