I prefer to dream of Alabina singing with Cher.

i've often thought that a Bruce Springsteen show in Terhan would solve all our cultural problems. Not quite, but Iran (or Persia) seems in the history that i have read to have alwys been a predominately secular people, even as muslims, at least as far as their public lives are concerned. I've heard that there is a reasonably healthy rock and pop underground in Iran today. An effort by musicians (likely not the music industry) to bring this music without too much fanfare into Europe and America and allow it to earn a street buzz could possibly be the most effect way of tempering a pathetic situation. Presumably Iranian music has a distinct sound and if spread as another style of punk or hip-hop or whatever rather than presented as something distinctly different a part of a generation of Americans might grow up with an inclusive attitude toward Persian, particularly if americanized persians were able to use the medim to find a voice.
