Yes, it was how it all appeared to me, primitive societies, taking fairly innocent remarks
and turning them into KRYSTAL NACHT.

It's a bit like being a dog owner. If you are an intelligent dog owner, you watch the movement of tails, watch the hair on a back, see the set of the ears, interpret the set of the legs and position of the head, when another dog comes close to yours.

Time and personal knowledge allow one to properly interpret the whole scenario and help to predict the 'next action'.

I sat over my crystal ball when the first blog on butthead appeared and watched it all happen before it happened, and I have only been here a few weeks.

I decided not to read most blogs for awhile, but turned away and read 'others'. I do the same thing when I see a crowd gathering in foreign countries, I wander away from the action.

College level anthropology does help a person to read the newspapers, listen to gossip, watch a group of people gather and know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run.

Bloggers, chatters, thread posters, etc. are the new tribes and should be studied in classes today, as most primitive societies are either gone or so studied as to be converted by now by their watchers.

Suggested new curriculum, I like your mind.

War On Teh Blogging Network
Cynthia - I was an cultural anthro. major before I became a journalism major and an ethno minor. Still fascinated with the subject. Wrote a blog not long ago comparing the BN comments section with a "Message Board". I find it amazing that total strangers will start a form of aggression against one another on the Internet and make statements they wouldn't have the guts to make in a "vis a vis" situation. It's a big competitive game!

Cynthia
Your list "It has been fascinating to see the alliances forming, the sneak attacks, the headmen, the shaman, and the women screamers" lacks in accuracy if you don't include the "THE MERCHANT".
