Go to Religion in the Modern World

- Go to All will be well my son - as soon as you confess your sins
mikebrown - that's really all of this stuff is, idiotic by today's measure
but a very effective component of an overall gameplan to completely control the peasants.

so idiotic
but a good way to get simpleminded people to subscribe to the faith. "you can do what you want, as long as you confess and say you're sorry".
when will people pull their heads out of their asses?

Reminds me of a play I read in British Literature
One of the early English mystery plays has an example of penance. The main character, Everyman, confesses his sins, does the required penance and is now fit to be accepted into heaven. Yeah, I had a hard time not laughing. Made me think of the bit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail where all of the monks are smacking their foreheads against a board.

JanesOpinion --- "a priest"? -- don't assume the singular
Dinky Dolsen was there for less than 4 months. One of a long parade of sickos. He only stands out because he was a transfer out during the school curriculum, which could only mean one thing. He had embarrassed the church again and had to be hidden deeper within it. I can only imagine where they send them after a residential mission school. Possibly to a secret dungeon in the basement of the Vatican......I'm only half kidding on that last remark.
Dinky Dolsen was at his best when dressed in the ceremonial robes. He thought he was "on stage before God" ----his exact words. So he pranced around like a forest nymph during the high mass. Most people would think that these subtleties would escape children but we were laughing the hardest of anyone else in the church. But alas... the humour of it is only to be shared by his non-victims. As I write about these horrific people I am forced to withdraw. I can only treat them as charicatures, I have no painful memories from them, I am propelled by other people's memories. In their name, I will not let these attrocities fade into revisionist history.....so yeah I'm jaded. The trick lies in balancing perspective with this obvious prejudice I have.....how am I doing so far?

Yeah, well, I've never understood how that whole confession business came into being. Certainly isn't in the Bible that I can see.
No wonder you're so jaded, gome, with a priest such as yours.

sounds all too familiar, but luckily I only went to confession once when I
was 14 and laughed my head off the whole time I was there...
Those sister's names were quite interesting.
