Xeno-x - I do know one thing for certain -- the Bills aren't going anywhere
again this year. The history of religious holidays and festivals does tell us how shrewd the church was back then. It was a convert by any means necessary mentality, which could include anything from killing those who would not comply, to usurping anything from indigenous religions that could be re-used and re-cycled.  I wonder if these people that want to call Halloween the "Devil's holiday" have any idea of the fact that they are simply picking a very minute portion of this festival's pagan origins. I also wonder how the notion of unleashing Satan and his underworld cronies into this realm by dressing up in costumes and having fun, can be reconciled with reality?

i think i messed up my comment
chiefs have the coach who coached the rams to a sboal & the qback who was injured and yet might have.
chiefs just might do it
broncos -- that's a nother story
but chiefs --
hey we're getting off the subject
sorry

i'm a celt. Irish heritage
Celts occupied much of Europe -- clear down to the Alps and into Northern Italy -- feared for awhile until Romans found that they were not so indomitable. Then ol' Julius made the circuit through FRance & cleared out the resistance. Then came back across the Rubicon & got hisself assassinated -- a little karma perhaps? -- but the Celts retained their heritage -- then some Church or other decided to "convert" them -- decided that these rituals outside Christianity would be incorporated so that the people could worship "Christ" in the same manner as they worshipped their local gods -- did the same with Christmas and Easter -- and everywhere they went, they converted by incorporating the local festivals, etc. -- so that if you look around you find the statues of Mary ,etc., are really local gods & goddesses -- shrewd wouldn't you say?
beats Baptist Bible bashing over the cabezza.
it's all a matter of relativity you know -- some Christians make it Holy, some attribute it to Satan -- and then -- most of us just don';t give a good damn because we feel it's a whole moot question anyway.
And yes, some bloggers have labelled Halloween as the "Devil's Holiday".

JanesOpinion - you know--I've never been able to find corroborating figures
or evidence to support that crime increases on halloween. Devil's night (Oct. 30th) has seen some extensive vandalism, mostly in the way of arson but this is a relatively new historical phenomona. Though certainly a concern, it's only real link to haloween is it's proximity on the calender and it's name.

Actually, Gome,

my primary concern is that there is an increase in crime on Halloween.  For whatever reason, it's there. Perhaps it's because all the vicious sorts take advantage of this day and its supposed fearful reputation and do their best to infuse their varying brands of evil into what should be a relatively harmless day.

JanesOpinion -- you found legitamite concerns in that post? - hoo boy
I guess mentioning that there has never been any indication of any harm done to this mythical spiritual realm would help matters, if a person believes it exists in the first place.

Ariala --- you can tell the guys wearing the Chiefs sweaters it's okay
They can show their faces. Us Bills fans have learned to walk in public without paper bags over our heads, so I'm sure they can do it too.

Gome, I have to ask, does this mean you won't be giving out Bible tracks

on Halloween at your house?  I just don't get you.

Yeah, I do see some of his concerns Gome.  But ever the peacemaker of sorts, I also see your point.  Historically it was a fun day of celebration and revelry and in your mind that's how it should remain.  Got it!

And I, if I get home on time from work, will be busy handing out candy to all the little ghosts and gobblins coming to my front door.

JanesOpinion -- Here's a beauty for you to peruse

Great post, but Gome, have you seen people yapping against Halloween on Blogit?  I certainly haven't (albeit admittedly I tend only to surf the top 10 or so in a few categories), which makes me think that perhaps you're waxing a wee bit paranoid against certain groups of folk?

Whatever.  Anyway, I hope all this gastric acid building up inside doesn't give you ulcers.
