I couldn't help but notice in your comment section the reference to Maggie Thacher! My God, I love that woman. Used to go intot he House of Commons to watch her in action from the viewer balcony. She is one of my all time favorites. I also love the quote you left of her's!

Uh, do you know who Gonzalez IS?

<Sigh>Being for affirmative action and abortion are not conservative stances........

You just want to argue.  How about you look up Alberto Gonzalez before you start giving me a hard time about it.  You're so ready to disagree with me simply because I'm a democrat you don't even know what you're arguing about.

I think I have enough years both working in and playing in  this wacky little world of politics.   Give you a hard time?  Is that what you call it when someone has a different view from yours?

I make no apologies for my positions.......

"find ways to meet in the middle"

I like what Margaret Thatcher said:

"Standing in the middle of the road is very dangerous; you get knocked down by the traffic from both sides."

Actually he's moved back up to the low 40's.......

See if he stands up to them...they have finally stood up to the President.......the meaning of the term base lends to the fact that, that is the segment of the electorate supporting you.

We held our noses and went along with the spending....... we held our noses again on the border and illegals issue.  But there are two areas that we are unwilling to compromise any further........Terrorism and the Supreme Court.

We, unlike the LIBDems, are willing to point out to our leaders, where we think they are "straying from the path".  Something they should have considered doing to reign in ol' Billy George.

We know who runs our party......it's us hard working Conservatives......

You guys keep up with this Moderate thingy......we won.....we get to pick.....bring on the change in the Senate rules to where it should be a simple majority vote....let the games begin.

Uh, do you know who Gonzalez IS?
He's a friend of the President...was the Attorney General in Texas.  He's currently on the short list for the President.  Why is it I'm trying to be agreeable and find ways to meet in the middle, and you just keep finding ways for us to be on opposite sides?  Gonzalez is NOT a liberal candidate, in fact I'm probably going against my party on this one...I just happen to think it makes sense for everyone.  You just want to argue.  How about you look up Alberto Gonzalez before you start giving me a hard time about it.  You're so ready to disagree with me simply because I'm a democrat you don't even know what you're arguing about.

I wonder if the "moderate" Republicans want ...
to be associated with the conservative ideologues? They're the only ones backing Bush now and his approval rate is in the mid-30s. Will the President will try and appease them? Bush has a long memory, doesn't like to be crossed and gets even.

It will be interesting to see if he cowers to the base or finally stands up to them.

When working in political campaigns we always felt the following adage was a good guide:

"The Louder They Squeal, The More Effective Your Efforts Have Been."

And there certainly has been a lot of squealing going on for the past 4.75 years.  And we've got 2.75 to go....with a lot still on our agenda.

Did I say agenda.....damned straight and proud of it.  No need to apologize or try to sugar coat it...it's a Conservative Agenda (not in a purist form) and Rove has done brilliantly overseeing the "strategery".....LOL

I agree we have some real marshmellows in the Senate. I have never seen or know of any President who had more on his plate the whole time and no matter what that man does the liberals are bashing him. It is disgusting. If I had not voted for him I would support him now, they don't like the way he walks, talks or looks in addition to his actions. I don't want to even think of where everything would be if we had not won the election!

Hugely qualified, first latino (would get the liberal vote with that and affirmative action, abortion stance), plus a conservative to boot.

There seems to be some contridiction of terms here.....

The people did speak.....November 2004 was the date.

We won the election...the President gets to pick the nominees.  We gave a pass to  Clinton on his nominee that stood for, how did you put it...... his "one part".   Now its time for use to get our "parts".

Why is it Liberals want their candidates to be selected and then also have a say in the candidates when we get to pick them......how does that work?

I guess the White Sox should have been fair last night and spoted Houston a run or two at the beginning of the game.  Amazing, just amazing.

The next nominee will be worse for everyone than Harriet...
...because now it's going to be too polarized.  If he had picked someone qualified that was not connected to him.  Hell, I would take someone connected to him and qualified and conservative (I'm liberal on some things, moderate on others)...like Alberto Gonzalez.  Hugely qualified, first latino (would get the liberal vote with that and affirmative action, abortion stance), plus a conservative to boot.  He wouldn't freeze up Congress with a fillabuster.  We should have a Justice that represents where the people stand, what the people want, not just one part.  Gonzalez would get my vote.

What if this were a diversion?   Another Rove ploy? He's given in to the Conservatives....they were even running ads against Miers.  They have been motivated.......ready to  fight the fight and now he can nominate someone that would have been drawing all the flack imaginable...the base is mobilized and primed for a fight!

Our problem is with the gutless moderate Republicans in the Senate like McCain,  Specter, Snow, and Graham (imagine that, a moderate from SC)

But the next nominee will be much worse for the left than Harriett would ever have been..........

Did she get the help and direction she needed from the committee that does that sort of thing? Is there to much distraction in the White House now to do the business it must do?
